Gregor's Patrol Route

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 7:26 am

Gregor's (The Housecarl for Heljarchen Hall) patrol route is so vast that it is useless for security of the house. That and he stays in one place way too long. I was attacked by a bunch of bandits after fast travelling to my house and they managed to kill my horse (with help from Serana's ice spike, seriously Beth your follower AI svcks, especially for one I can't get rid of, and why the frak does she ask "Yes, what do you need" every two seconds, it's driving me nuts, I find incapacitating her with a crossbow bolt to the face shuts her up for a while).

But back on topic, Gregor's daily routine needs to be fixed and his patrol route tightened and sped up.

Well, I guess you get what you pay for, since you don't pay your housecarl at all. I've had two 500-septim merc followers, and been pretty satisfied with them.

Maybe I am just lucky, but Gregor has worked out very well for me.

You need to advance the quest to get Serana to shut up. In between Prophet and Chasing Echoes she gets caught in this loop of constantly saying "Did you need something?" every time you are within 5 feet of her. As soon as you get to the courtyard in Castle Volkihar she will drop that line.

Back on topic: I find Valdimar even worse. I go up on the roof and look for him with aura whisper and I still can't find him. He also seems to like swimming in the fish hatchery and butchers the horkers down there. Gregor's patrol pattern may be wide, but I can still find him, not so with Valdimar.

I've never even seen Gregor patrolling, just milling around doing farm labor. Is that because I made him steward?

Valdimar is terrible. I watched him get stuck in the hatchery, teleport onto the ice, fall under the ice and get stuck, then teleport back into the fish hatchery to start the cycle all over again. It's good that NPCs don't drown.

Yes, if you make him steward he stays close to the house as a steward does. I thought that was patrolling when my other character made him steward, I just didn't know. Now I have a separate steward and Gregor patrols.

Also btw, if you lose track of Gregor or a follower at Heljarchen, check in front of the big rock outcropping in front of the house, where the drafting table is. They get stuck there often, so must be a pathing isue. I always make a wide berth of that area when I am coming back home or leaving with them. They will 'unstick' when you go in the house though, or fast/carriage travel.

Valdimar is not the only NPC flummoxed by the hatchery. Every time I go there with my spouse/follower and I go down there, he goes in the water instead of the dock. Pathing issues there too.

At least your House Carl doesn't go AWOL. Mine frequently does and I need to use console command to make her re-appear.
