Steward Golldir shirking?

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 3:31 am

One thing I have noticed about Golldir recently, is that he is only in his bed at night about every 3 or 4 days. I didn't think much of it the first few times I noticed, but my character finished smithing him some new armor rather late one night, and I couldn't find him. Next morning, he still isn't there. Now Gregor is gone every now and then, but not often, Golldir is gone more and more. If I wait like 12 hours or so, he shows up. This caught my notice just this past week playing, but I didn't really think much of it. After all, Lydia never used her d@mn bed either!

So, I was just playing, coming back towards Whiterun from Sleeping Tree Camp area, when I see a familiar figure up the road ahead. Yep, Golldir, and almost to the Meadery, I swear! Steward dialog intact, so no issue there. I know aussie was saying Gregor was going to the meadery, but I just thought that was part of her character's story. Apparently not, which is probably where Gregor is going too! What is the deal with this? My character gets back to HH, no Golldir, no Gregor in sight of the house, Vorstag was with my character, and Sophie was playing outside all alone! The horse would have been the only one to defend her!!

Golldir is on notice....I can get another steward.

Edit: I was almost to the road going into Whiterun itself when I saw him. I checked to talk to him and got the normal dialog, but when I exited talking, he just kept heading up the road and it had to be the Meadery where he was headed. I got my character back to HH, and after waiting until the next morning, he came in to HH from outside.

And I jst got done talking to another today about how he's a pretty good steward....

What you've described here isn't a Golldir-specific bug. Players have reported the same occurrences with various other stewards and housecarls.

Well d@mn, how come it's doing this now, and wasn't from the start when I got him? &@#%#

I don't like it....

I had seem some, but the way the ones I read about were presented in the posts, I thought it was storyline.

No it is a bug I am pretty sure, and once one does it it seems all stewards at Heljarchen Hall will do it, my two characters stalked enough of them. Persist and the game should get better at teleporting him back to the house when you arrive home. It was only a serious problem for me when trying to get one of the sods to furnish that entryway, they were spending too much time trekking off to the meadery and were never home to furnish. :(

I am sure you are both right, I just misunderstood....I hope it does get better and I don't end up with a lush for a steward!

It's house/bed related. Seems to have something to do with sleeping assignments and the number of beds and homes you own. Stewards and housecarls wandering from one home to another, sleeping in the wrong beds or not sleeping at all. I never encounter problems with wandering personnel when I only own a single Hearthfire home. Once I acquire two or more, they wander.

They are useless slobs anyway, never seen any of them do anything destructive except wander round like puffed up roosters.

I knocked a steward off for doing that, one of those good looking dawnguard guys, three times he stood around looking pretty while Aussie fought off bandits and I think one attack was a giant. The third time she caught him hiding in the stables behind the horse. He seemed to think it was more important to provide some light for the horse, than defend the house, that was it, he was dead. Aussie went and got herself a real man to defend the house, Vilkas fights just fine. Gregor is usually not around to defend the house when it is attacked, although if he is there at least he fights.

Gregor is another of those mead addicts.

That may be the case, Now that I think about it. I only had the one home, but then built the small house at Winstad.
But still, Gregor is around most of the time. Golldir WAS always around....
They do both fight, no problem there. When they are there.

Yes. And I have never got a bounty for killing one either.

Finally found this thread. :P

I haven't had any trouble with my Heljarchen Steward (Vilkas) wandering, but I noticed Gregor wandering away a few times. I followed him and he went to the road near Lorius farm where the guard walks around, then he came back. I thought maybe he was supposed to patrol that far out for some reason, but then I saw him twice on the road near Honningbrew Meadery. If Vilkas starts doing this I'll be pissed. :P

In Heljarchen I was pleased that everyone sleeps in the right beds, which I thought had been buggy for people. It's the only house where I don't have a bard, but I did wonder who gets what beds at the other two houses. Maybe adding a bard might make their sleeping schedules bug out? I was annoyed that it's possible to not have enough beds if you have a bard and don't build the bedroom wing.

Drat the man! Golldir is still gone 80% of the time, and the last couple of times I stopped at my little house at Winstad to get fish, he's there like he's running the place!

I will keep up the hope that he gets better, because I have decided I can't 'fire' him.....arrrgh!!

Well, the continuing aggravation of Golldir. He was at the house for a full day for a change, then when everyone else was sleeping, (but not my character) he left the house. I went after him, and had him follow me back home. I released him and as soon as my back was turned he was right out the door again. I went outside, and we went through the same process. After that I just let him go. He also no longer has the dialog option for house improvements btw, not that I want a bard, and that's all that's left. If I did want one though, no dice now. I bet I could got to Winstad and he'd be there.

Well if you ever get tired of her and ask her to leave, chances are she will not. Some of those bard's are real dedicated, the only way to get some peace and quiet is to kill them!
