Relationship creation

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 4:46 pm

Tried to search first, saw others are having issues but not sure it's the same as what I'm experiencing.

Would like to create a Relationship where the Player is the Parent but I'm not sure what I should use as Child. The NPC's name is not in the list to assign her as Child status. Seeing other NPC companions (like a housecarl) have a City Faction as their Parent, then the player as Child. This NPC is found in a dungeon, so she has no Parent. Is it possible to set the Player as Parent and Child or will that effect AI in some weird way?

Secondly when I've tried to create a Relationship it doesn't show up in the list. Is there a Relationship list somewhere, similar to Faction list we need to open once we create it, to drag and drop?

Thanks for any help. :)

Thanks for any help.

Relationship: That NPC is either a levelled-actor or an encounter-actor. As far as I know, you can't set those up with relationships.

Relationship2: I've no idea why you would want a parent-child relationship that is Player to Player? You'll have to explain more about what you are trying to do (I think the game will let you set it up, no idea what weirdness might happen, nor where, though)

Relationship-Types: I don't think we can create new relationship-types? From memory, the list of all possible relationships is hard-coded into the game (when my CK is open, I will check ...)

Yes we can. Called Association types in the Object window, if I remember correctly.

I can't really help the OP though, except to say that I have made them and they showed up fine in the list once I'd click OK on everything, without any need to drag and drop.

Thanks for replies h4vent and Ingenue.

This is intended to try to fix the player companion Illia, who has trouble with her Relationship Rank resetting. It's been at least a moderate problem, since you have to reset her constantly and to fully reset she loses all her gear too from being disabled. I'm pretty sure you can have Relationships with NPCs since I was looking specifically at player Companions like Housecarls (Tab next to Factions).

The reason I wanted to try Player as her Parent and her Child is it would always mean she defaulted to the Player and as the Child in theory she would always be a protector.

I'll make a backup and try clicking Ok through it all, then Saving and reloading. Worried since, I've never seen a CK Created Identifier not showing up before and not sure if this is the bug many are posting with Relationship.

Thanks for any tips.

dunDarklightIllia? She is not a unique actor.

You can, you're right ... but just so you don't tie yourself in too many knots ... not all NPCs.

As ingenue says, only Unique Actors ... and you appear to be dealing with an encounter or levelled actor ... those are not unique and so don't - as far as I know - do the relationships thing.

And thanks for the tip on how to create new relationship-types, ingenue ... I'll have a look. I figured it was not possible, because of other similar lists that we can't fill (and I can't remember, but I know there was at least one!) ... It will be useful if I can do this :)

Thanks Ingenue and h4vent.

Not sure I understand, do you mean there is more than one Illia, aren't all companions leveled and some encountered through quests? After completing her quest, she just sits in the tower waiting to be recruited just as any other companion, afaik.

Thanks for any help.

If you look at dunDarklightIllia in the CK you can see that 'Unique' is not checked, and it can't be, because she has a LvlWarlockFrostBoss actorbase. Uniqueness means that more than one instance of her could exist, not that it does, and helps the game find things when they aren't persisting. There are various things you can't set for non-unique characters.

Thanks for the info, Ingenue.

Too bad, do you think her base could be rebuilt on a housecarl or other companion base? I'm guessing it would be a pita but afaik from the sound of things, it would solve the problem.

I've added Player Faction to her in the Faction section, hoping that makes things at least a bit smoother.

Anyone know if anything sounds risky about removing Illia's actor base, in the sense of quests or AI issues? I looked at the housecarl base and they have None selected and would this allow the creation of Relationships? I'm guessing it could work as long as none of the Factions I tie her to for the Relationships, don't interfere with her quest or opposing faction conflicts.

Thanks for any help.

Seems to work, testing now but her Relationship rank has held. Need to assign her a new home spot and make sure she goes there post quest. It just makes no sense why she would stay at a tower, she was trying to escape from.
