Reinstaling with dawnguard? I dont think so...

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 5:22 pm

Well i'm new here so, sorry if im in the wrong place. Usualy i dont post anything because i always fix my things... that changed today and i'm frustated.
I had a problem with skyrim and I reinstalled it. ok so far so good. when o loaded my dark elf vampire lord level 55 with full enchanted daedric armor, the normal attack was disabled... only power attacks. I tried new game but same thing. Reinstalled the game again and the same bug... what could it be... then i found it! It works fine without the 'dawnguard' in the data files. Why? Seriously what the ****? Its not a character that i'll level up again.
Anyone else got this? Am i in the wrong place? Is there a solution? Not even new game works, only without dawnguard.

Thank you.

yes i got one. It was 'steel soldiers with cloaks'. It svcked and I removed. Maybe its because of it? But [censored] up only dawnguard? It's not even there anymore. I installed the creation kit and it buged the game, an error in the launcher so i reinstalled and that happened.

Ah yes, those wonderful "safe" mods. My guess is this is where all your frustration comes from, most existing mods are not guaranteed to be DG compatible. ;)

Yeah but why cant I create a new game with the dawnguard activated? I'll try to clean everything, even the save files and create a new game. Reinstall everything.... Here we go again :(

Not JUST reinstall. Clear the whole thing... make sure the directory and any registry entries are COMPLETELY gone.

Yes i did that, i cleaned evething even in the app folder. I reistalled the game, updated to the 1.7.7 and activated the danwguard DLC... same thing. I deactivated the DLC and everything worked just fine. It's in the DLC. What if I update the game again? Someone got the 1.7.7 update link for download that works? Maybe that's the problem. It's just a 'maybe' but who knows.

Are you installing from disc or d/l?

You kept your save games, so obviously not everything was cleared off. Move them off (memory stick, CD, whetever).

I ask about the d/l because, although I'm not familiar with Skyrim's install routine, it is possible that SOME files are left behind and that some DLCs may still be hanging around. You may want to check your entire Steam directory structure as well, if applicable.

I did it, i fixed. I downloaded the update 1.7.7 from a random website and everything works just fine now. Problem solved. I appreciate everyone's help. By the way, my save game works too, nothing was lost... just time. :)
