Serana makes a nice follower

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 7:18 pm

Except for her complaining, Serana is an okay follower if you like to use them. Most of the way through Dawnguard, I got the offer to go with Aela to find a totem, Serana would not be dismissed. What loyalty! There was a message at the top of the screen saying your follower is dismissed or something saying that Aela was replacing my follower. So I decided to knock out a couple of quests along the way with the two ladies. I guess this is either a bug or she is supposed to stay with you for some reason. I read on this forum that Serana could not be found after she was dismissed. So maybe something is buggy with her as a follower.

I don't like that she won't go away. Sometimes I just want to get sidetracked and go off and do something else for a while, without her constantly following me around.

I think that's the whole point of a follower ... they follow.

She's about the only mage follower I have used before. She was generally helpful, though a time or to she would raise up a dead rabbit or chicken to fight with us, which was more humorous than helpful. She really wasn't crazy about me using Dawnbreaker around her as she would get caught in the bang every now and then, but she never went hostile because of it or anything. I thought her ice spear spell was most helpful.

Definately  !! I normally hate followers as they're always getting in the way or charging in when I want to sneak! But Serana is one of only two followers I like to have, the other is Mjoll. They are both as tough as nails and they're essential so no babysitting reqiured  !! And of course they are both easy on the eye, especially Serana  !

does she actually say anything referencing the dawnbreaker? or just your typical "watch it" or something?

So true, and while serana is much better than most of the other followers in terms of sneaking (especially the companions) she will once in a while wander right in front of me right as I release an arrow :shakehead: ; and seeing as I use either the dragonbone shortbow or Nightingale longbow both tempered to (legendary) well you get the idea :wallbash: .

Just 'Watch It'. Would be interesting for her to have something to say about an artifact that is designed to kill undead.

For pc'ers, there's now a mod that lets you turn her off, and turn her back on again, without losing any of your gear in the process...it doesn't fix the 'dismiss or wait' bug, but it helps.

I like her as a character and a follower. The only thing I find annoying about her is the constant ash piles she leaves behind after a fight. But I still love her anyway.

I didn't like being forced to have an invincible destruction/conjuration vampire mage follow me around.
I thought she was too powerful, and her being an essential NPC means there's no consequence to letting her rush in first and kill almost everything until she gets forced down, allowing you to finish off the last Falmer Warmonger or whatever.

I hate essential NPCs regardless, let alone when they're foisted upon me for an entire quest line.

She's a decent follower, when she's not nerfing my VL powers. And her ash piles.

She's a real [censored] block for stealthers. She's also a big pain in the ass for VLs, considering she nerfs the [censored] out of your Drain Life damage when she's following you. Plus, her main offensive spell is Ice Spike, a Apprentice spell that deals Frost damage, when a large amount of opponents you fight in Skyrim are highly resistant to Frost :/
As far as Mage followers go, Marcurio has her beat, hands down.

You may be able to keep Serana and another follower... Until - or if - you send her to be cured. I held onto both Aela and Serana for a long time, then did the cure for her, and now cannot have two anymore (xbox as well) I keep a lot of saves around, so I can go back if i miss the dynamic duo... they do work well together.....

This 100%.
She is the worst follower I've encountered by far.
I absolutely hate that I cannot be rid of her when I choose. She simply refuses to go.
Spoiler

She constantly spams the same lines over and over - "Where did you come from?" for enemies we've been watching or already encountered...
Her emo dialogue options about being lonely are appropriate for a teenager, not someone who's lived for thousands of years.
She is a filthy necromancer (whom I detest) and resurrects everything, including any innocent non-hostiles who may have gotten killed and certainly don't deserve what she does to them.
She hits me with her offensive spells.
I asked her to wait outside Riften while I ran into my house to grab some things. Next thing I know she has come into Honeyside and sat down in a chair.
One of her dialogue options early on tell you that you will need to kill Harkon, because otherwise he will kill us both. So why again do I have to go do half a dozen more quests and get the scrolls he wants...? Why don't we just go kill him now? Why in The Nine Hells are we doing the legwork to make it possible for him to get his plan to work?
