Old Skyrim Vampires vs New Volkihar

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 8:15 am

Which appearance did/do all of you prefer more?

The red and black eyed and pale skinned stereotypical Vampire look of the vanilla Skyrim vampires.

Or the tanned red-line from the top of the mouth down the chin and glowing gold eyed Volkihar vampires?

Keep in mind, the Volkihar are meant to be grotesque according to the Lore so it explains why they are tanned...or extremely dirty?

Can somebody give me a QUOTE where it says that Volkihar are meant to be ugly? According to lore they are paranoid and cruel yes, and they don't live in populated areas, but nowhere does it say they are supposed to be ugly. For all we know they could be the most gorgeous creatures on Nirn. Neither Serana nor her father look ugly, nor does the player character when he turns into one.

That said, I do think that the new deformed bat faces most vampires in dawnguard have look very awesome.

Well they never actually say the Volkihar, they merely said from the quotes people have given on other threads are that besides The Order who made a deal with Clavicus Vile to look normal if they feed, all other vampires are grotesque monsters who have to use illusion magic or helmets/hoods to hide their identities if they wish to operate in the world as a "normal" person.

As you can imagine they couldn't make that happen since people whined and complained about it in Morrowind so they for gameplay enjoyment reasons gave the Volkihar the same treatment as The Order even though the Volkihar are meant to be grotesque..just as the Morrowind vampires were and the Daggerfall Vampires...etc.

They did though if you wanna be technical went by the Lore by making the Volkihar more monsterous looking than The Order since ONLY The Order can look normal by feeding.

The fact only The order can look normal by feeding should be enough to let you know the other Vampires aren't that...easy to miss.

It'd be cool if theres a mod that makes it so everyone attacks you if you don't wear a hood/helmet if you're a Volkihar vampire.

Same with your companions if they are a Volkihar vampire.

I agree with all you say, but it still doesn't explain why Serana looks normal (except for glowing eyes). Sadly I think it's because most people want to have hot female characters in the game. Serana wouldn't be as popular as she is on these forums if she looked ugly.

The old vampires are better by default because they don't have some annoying Hot Topic vampire that you're forced to have follow you.

That and the fact that she's a pure-blooded vampire may have something to do with it.

I like the new glowing eyes and more of an undead look, I don't even see the red line thing people are always talking about because my wizard who also happens to be a vampire has a big grey beard and my other imperial vampire has a black goatee, all I see is more of an undead look and glowing eyes. Which makes both those characters look more evil.

I'm for them both really.

I kinda wish they would make it so that only DLC related vamps have the new eyes and look, leaving the vanilla vamps the way they were. I also kinda wish they'd allow us the option of both strains. Vanilla infection or get bitten by DLC vamps.

I like the bit about being forced to wear masks or hoods in public, but I'd prefer it only for stage 4. (truth be told I rather like it as it is, but if they did anything I'd prefer this) I'd also appreciated it if they'd allow us to avoid the sun penalty (or at least the bulk of it) if we robe up, full gloves, complete with a masked hood/helmet.

If you notice all of Serana's family don't have ugly faces, that's because they are the only pure blooded vampires in the game.

The new eyes are too flashy for me. They should have kept the old eyes but made the glow a little. As for the line going down the face I see no reason for it.
