Being a Vampire Lord AND a Werewolf

Post » Sat Nov 17, 2012 11:42 pm

If I have the Ring of Hircine, and then become infected and become a Vampire Lord, will I still be able to turn into a Werewolf?
i.e. can i turn into a Vampire Lord, and then moments later turn into a Werewolf?

Why do people even want to become hybrids? Seriously, it's lame.

I guess that since the Underworld Series people like the idea of being a hybrid.

I'm assuming all of your gear will be unequipped as soon as you morph into the Vampire Lord (Just like beast form). So no, i wouldn't say so.

Not sure, though.

Your gear does not unequip when you transform into vampire lord that only happens with beast form.

Actually, the idea of vampiric werewolves predates Underworld by a good number of centuries. As a matter of fact, according to many real life legends, slain werewolves could become undead (such as return as a vampire in the physical form of a wolf or a hyena for example) unless the body is decapitated or cremated. According to what I've read, in some regions of Europe the terms for "vampire" and "werewolf" are synonyms, at least from a historical standpoint. Don't know if the creators of the Underworld movies were aware of parts of old and somewhat obscure werewolf legends like that or if they just simply "made it up," but those movies did not actually completely originate the idea, despite what haters of Underworld say.

Anyway, back on the subject of the topic, you're technically not supposed to be able to transform into a werewolf using the Ring of Hircine without actually being a werewolf. I've heard of some glitches here and there, but I can't remember exactly what they are, and I don't know if it really applies to Vampire Lords either.

Also, @Laxador, Wesley Snipes, and Shinros: Have a fishy stick!

I am not saying that ( didn't mean ) that the Underworld writers came up with the idea. But that since the movies came out it seems like maybe people want to be able to play one.

I wasn't necessarily talking about you in specific really, but based off of comments I've seen, I think that there are people who are convinced that the Underworld writers did make them up, and consider the idea to be stupid because of Underworld, which in my opinion is like calling vampires and werewolves the lamest things ever because of a certain franchise that must never be mentioned here. I personally don't have any current opinions on the Underworld movies since I've never actually seen any of them. Some people consider those movies to be awful for whatever reason, but those movies are still better than most films these days featuring vampires and werewolves (the franchise that must not be mentioned and Tim Burton's Dark Shadows, for instance), I can say that much. Not that I don't respect the opinions of others of course, just noting what I see sometimes.

According to the UESP,
If you are wearing the Ring of Hircine when you cure yourself of lycanthropy, then it is possible to retain the power to transform into a werewolf once per day. Unequiping the ring after you have been cured does not disable this bug, thus allowing you to permanently have the ability to transform, even after you are cured.
You could try and see if that works, probably using the vanilla route for curing yourself to ensure that it works. I would set up several saves to back up on and try and see what works and what doesn't. If what the UESP says doesn't work, then I'm not sure what does.

So, currently I'm both a vampire lord and werewolf. I didn't think it was possible, but I am. Here's how it happened:

I've been a vampire since the beginning of the game, then became a vampire lord and went through all the DG DLC. This particular character is a vampire, as in that's what defines the character, so I wasn't interested in doing the Companions quest line because I thought that becoming a werewolf would automatically cure my vampirism. But then I was in Whiterun and got svckered into starting the questline.

I saved right before the werewolf ritual and thought I would do it just to see what happens and then reload and turn it down. Well, after being a wolf I checked my active effects, no vampire stuff, checked my race: Nord, checked my powers: no vamp... hey wait, I still have the vampire lord power. Tried it and transformed into a VL. Changed back and checked and now my race is vampire and all my vampire powers are back but I still have the beast form power (which switches me back to Nord and gets rid of my vampire powers again). So using either form switches me from being Nord or Vampire.

When in vampire form, I progress through the stages normally, can feed, am recognized by Fallion (all things that others have reported not working correctly when they are glitched as both vampire and werewolf). I am playing on PC and do have some minor vampire mods installed, but nothing major like Belua Sanguinare.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Best way to be a hybrid I've found is to finish Dawnguard on either side, then progress through the companions until

Spoiler
you have to become a werewolf. Have Serana follow you, then turn you into a Vampire Lord before the ritual, then activate the Vampire Lord power just as you activate the blood fountain. If done right your character will perform the drinking animation at the fountain but you'll hear the transform ability. When you wake up in werewolf form, you'll turn into a Vampire Lord right after. Use revert form, then talk to Serana and have her turn you into a Vampire Lord again. When the time runs out, you'll wake up with Aela as usual with both the Beast Form and Vampire Lord powers.

If you never feed on an NPC, you'll never have sun/fire weakness or any Vampire powers other than Vampire Sight if I remember right. I fed a while ago so I don't remember the specifics, though I do remember the weaknesses not being added after using Vampire Lord and Revert Form.

If you do feed, you'll become a stage one Vampire with the ability to progress through stages and sun/fire weakness as normal.

Changing to a Werewolf and back turns off your undead flag so the Dawnguard people talk to you (if you sided with them) and the face changer works normally, although if you've fed you retain sun weakness and weakness to fire along with any Vampire powers.

I won't take credit for this - I found it on youtube and tried it out. It worked for me on Xbox so it should work for any one else on that system.

@ Aipex8: Makes me wonder if there's an easier way to do it than this method. Might be worth checking in to for someone with time on their hands

I disabled my vampire mods and went back to the save prior to the werewolf ritual and it played out the same. Seeminly cured of vampirism by turning to a werewolf, except for still having the vampire lord power. Transforming to vampire lord fully turns me back into a vampire with the beast form power.

After a little playing around, using beast form after that first time does turn me back to race: Nord (again, this is with vamp mods enabled, as one of them changes race to Vampire if you are one. Vanilla shows you as Nord regardless of vampire status), but some vampire abilities are still there, so it's more of a hybrid. Kind of confusing.

In the end it worked out perfectly for me. I wanted to do the companions quests without losing my vampirism/vl perks, and I was able too. If you are looking to be able to switch to beast form and still be a full vampire when you turn back (without having to switch to vampire lord form and back) then it's not the true hybrid system you're looking for.
