Dawnguard not availible in my region (any legal ways to get

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 9:34 am

So, I live in Estonia, and Skyrim is only available on disc here. If I have the disc, I can activate the game through steam and play it just fine, I just can't buy the game through steam. Now as far as I know, Dawnguard is download only, no retail version. This means I can't buy it on steam. Are there any legal ways of getting the game or am I out of luck?

I'm sure I'm not the only person with this problem, maybe someone knows a solution?
Thanks.

Could someone in the UK/US gift you the DLC?

Well, technically it's possible I guess, problem is, I don't know anyone from those countries well enough to trust with this kind of thing. Though I guess it is the only option. I'll have to find someone on these forums who'd be willing to do this.

The best thing to do would probably be to contact the publisher that released Skyrim in Estonia (Cenega?), and ask them when they gonna release Dawnguard in Estonia.

If it is Cenega, then there was this post about it not long ago.
Cenega has posted on Facebook that Dawnguard will be available in the Czech Republic in some shape or form. I suppose same will go for any distributor that works under 1C.

No, neither Cenega nor 1C are distributors here. Skyrim is only availible on disk here. If I do steam search for Skyrim, I get no results, so unless Bethesda plans to release DLC on disk, I'm afraid I'm out of luck.

I would like to ask moderators opinion. Is it against the forum rules to ask a fellow forum member to gift me the DLC via Steam if I pay them? I don't think it's illegal.

That's a shame. Finland is so close and we get it here. Don't suppose you could take a Silja line trip with your computer... if you had any friends over here that is. Personally I think your plan it the best one available to you right now. If you can find someone who is willing to gift it to you I don't see why that would be illegal.

Actually I go to Finland fairly often, I have family there. However I thought Steam is region locked based on where you registered the account. If that's the case I won't be able to purchase it from Finland. I haven't tried it though so I'm not entirely sure.

Hmm, I didn't think of that but you are probably right. And it's no good to make a new account because Skyrim will be attached to your old account... region locking is a pain! I hope you get it sorted, good luck.

I'm pretty sure Steam is region locked to your current location, not your account.

This is true.

I would be willing to gift you Dawnguard OP if you still need assistance.

I've got the same problem. A shame, really. I even wish to give Beth my money, but they do not seem to care. Seems I'll just have to wait :nope:

Yeah, it does't seem to make any sense from a business point of view. I got the problem solved thanks to a very helpful forum member who was willing to gift me the game. You could try asking around.

Then you have no problem at all. Contact your family in Finland and ask one of them to make an account in Steam and then to buy Dawnguard as a gift to your account. That's the way you can get it.

A fellow forum member already helped me to get the game, but thanks.
If you didn't already have Skyrim you could bounce your signal off of a proxy server located in a "available" region, purchase your Skyrim+Dawnguard then play.
Its similar to the process you use to watch Hulu in Canada.
You know I study computer science and I honestly never even thought of that. *bashing my head against the wall*

I think a mod can lock this thread now, I've solved my issue and several helpful advises have been posted for anyone having the same issue.

So, is it confirmed, someone from a country (Great Britain for example), where the DLC is available, can buy it and gift is to you? Because I heard that the region code of the DLC and your account will be different if you do it this way, and you won't be able to activate it.
