Hello, I recently purchased a copy of Dawnguard, however, It won't stay selected on the Data Files List, therefore I can not start the new line.. I tried initially, checked it off, went in game, various guards said nothing, Exited, Checked It again, hit ok, then clicked data files again, and it was no longer selected. Anyone know a possible solution to this issue?

Something else that was funky.. upon Fast traveling, a massive group of mobs spawns where ever I travel to... like, a few spiders, Bears, Dragar, Even an ancient Dragon.. Whats up with that? I have not used any mods on skyrim other then arrowsmith, and have never seen this pre-updating skyrim to most recent patch..

Also, since Skyrim has been updated, I can no longer loot all items from a body with R, Set something as a favorite from my list of Items with F , AND Upgrade items using blacksmith ?... ._. has anyone else had this issue? (I use customized controls, not sure if this is where the issue is, but I have made a few 60+ characters Pre any patch to skyrim with no issues like these)

HOWEVER.. custom controls actually stick when I change them/exit lol.. so that is a plus...

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I would love to actually play through this DLC.. re-adjust my favorites, Quickly loot stuff... upgrade my weapons via Blacksmith...

The mass spawning greeting party is I think to do with the mounted combat, it turned up on the Xbox 360 with the 1.6 patch. The guards are not always going to mention vampire attacks straight away, even with Dawnguard installed, why did you think it was not working the first time?

Interesting.. the mass spawn was pretty crazy, especially when I warped into riften , but wasnt such a big deal when I warped to a field location where no friendly npcs got killed, or guards got hit by friendly fire...

Not sure why it hasnt worked... I figured there is more to the issue though considering that it won't stay selected in the Data Files Section where the mods show up. (in addition to the newly showed up control issues with looting, making items favorite, upgrading at blacksmith)

A friend suggested a complete clean reinstall so this is what I will try and see if it works.. hopefully I will still be able to use my save games

I'd try to completely uninstall, run a registry cleaner, then re-install Skyrim, and Dawnguard. You could also try Defraging your computer afterwards just too make sure the install is completely clean

Is it normal for the Dawnguard to show up on the list as a .esm? (the only other mod I have is Arrowsmith and it is a .esp and it remains selected after I click it and press ok) Then only 2 Dawnguard files steam provided in Date Folder is .bsa and .esm

What a pain in the *** this has been..

Process should be... Buy Base game, Buy Expansion, Play expansion... no need to do some specialy data file load in order to play or w/e.. truely frustrating.


I have reinstalled once already, kind of obnoxious u need to re download it .. knew i should have just bought from a retail store.. Ran the Steam Cache verifier twice, with nothing poping up saying blahblah is corrupt or anything like that.

Just to update this, The Tech support solved my problem, Pretty random issue I was having, it has to do with WIN 7. (the whole Dawnguard wont stay selected on Data Files)

Best I can say is if you have a similar issue, contract Beth Tech Support, Follow their steps, and hopefully your issue will get solved.

It took about a week of emails back and forth, possibly a week because of the times i was able to reply, the whole working thing ya know, but the issue is solved so all is good.
