Werewolf only combat

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 3:54 am

With the new wolf perk tree is playing a no gear, were form combat only, character viable? I have been muddleing this idea in my head for a long time and I wad hoping with the perks this could be possible. I was planning to gain levels through smithing and other means mainly for the health and stamina and dont intend on using any perks but the werewolf tree...

If you play it as a hopping in and out kind of thing then sure.

Charge in, full power smack, keep running past them, turn around and do it again.

Play it like a wolf. Wolves don't dart straight forward and keep biting and scratching.

They watch their prey, they follow it, they move around it in circles, they charge in and do a big hit then get right out.

Wolves are smart, they never do anything of high risk, they never do anything that puts one of their own at risk either.

Point being, if you want to tank 5 guys then no. If you want to hit and run 5 guys then sure. Plenty of people do it. They keep track of how many days they've been able to maintain wolf form from constant feeding.

I would like to hear some insights from other wolf purists....

I never got much use out of Totem of Brotherhood myself. I prefer Totem of Fear. I feel it works better with hit and run tactics. I have tried only using smithing/enchanting/alteration for leveling and purely using werewolf for combat and it works well. As long as you know the limitations of your werewolf form (Such as not trying to be a tank and soak up damage) you can destroy anything. Also if you start off as a Breton (which gives you 25% magic resistance), use The Lord Stone, do the quests for Mara to get her blessing, or pick up 3 out of 3 magic resistance in the Alteration tree you wont have to worry about magic users.

its not only viable but fun...with all the perks i have all the means to sustain my beast form as long as i like. one night i played as a wolf for an hour rauaging the land, clearing out some bandit camps, feasting on farmers and even going claw to tooth with an ancient dragon...sadly i couldnt eat its heart though

after I was done i had to wait 10 hours to return to normal :)

I think it would be a lot of fun. I've not been able to remain a werewolf for days like some but I have managed to keep it going for about 10+hours. You need to build a base character first. A lot of stamina and health. There is some good werewolf tips in the Dawnguard spoiler section.

If your on the PC there is a mod that allows you in werewolf form to open doors/loot bodies/chests. It seems odd a werewolf can't at least open a door.

Werewolves can already open doors, just not locked ones....and they can pull chains/levers.

I can see how thats helpful but it in my opinion breaks the whole "I'm a monster and I have no hands, I have paws/claws and the only thing on my mind is the hunt, looting can come after the hunt is complete...for now" feel.

No different then returning to humanoid form and still having your whole inventory with you. I RP that my characters have their intelligence while in wolf form and looting fits with that.

To each their own, I suppose.

I RP my character as a loyal hound of Hircine striving to be the greatest hound..which I succeeded at...got both Hircine daedric quest rewards..all totems and maxed out the werewolf perk tree, Hircine is pleased...with that comes the whole "The master commands me to hunt and kill every time I transform for his glory" after I transform back then my character regains his "senses" persay and goes back and loots because even a werewolf needs money, my character is also a cannibal because the taste of flesh from eating people as a werewolf eventually carried over to his normal form, no doubt it also pleases Hircine the father of all werebeasts that his greatest hound is becoming more predatory even in his normal form. =D

Currently at level 10 with this build my set up is pretty standard. Using alteration to get levels up now that I finally have beast form, Ill be spending perks only on passive bonuses that will apply to wereform.

You are a WEREWOLF! what possable use could you have for loot?

back on topic i recamend ALL of the Alteration perks, Avoid Death (restoration) Snakeblood( alchemy) and light step (stealth perk that negates pressure plates) all carry over to your beast form. if you so choose you can toss in some destruction dual casting to make the cloak spells last longer. soups and stews are also worth carrying. virtualy none of the actual 'combat' perks will be of any use to you what so ever if you're planing on making Beast Form your mainstay combat option.

-edit- and to answer, a pair of spectral werewolves is like getting the dremora twins for the first time. only the werewolves can ragdoll damnear everything they come across.

When i played as a werewolf on my first character i prefered Totem of the Hunt..this allowed me to see how many people were around before i went charging in. This also helped me close in on people when in the middle of a fight in a dungeon or at night when you can lose track normally.

Hope this helped
