Conjuration is frustrating

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 9:46 am

Conjuration was always one of my favorite skills because you can summon a companion and help you fight(makes battles more intresting). But for some reason every time i try to perform a summoning, i succed after 3-4 attempts which is quite annoying .Its even more frustrating when you try to use one of your powers.I tried to summon a hero of Sovangarde and not only i didnt succeded in this but i had to wait 24 hours till the cooldown expired.
I dont loose mana when i try to summon neither the cross is red.It is just that i cant perform the spell...

Do you have a spell absorption effect on you? That's known to have issues with any form of conjuration, making it more difficult.

I dont know if i have a spell absorption effect right now.I DO know that only with summoning creatures i have this problem and it has to do with the space(if the summoning doesnt have enough space it wont emerge). But this happens even though the cross is blue and not red.And it is very frustrating to loose your power spells because of this.

Also if i had absorption effect upon me wouldnt this affect all my spells?

Do you have the Atronach Stone active? It "eats" your summons.

You definantely have some sort of absorb magicka power on you if that is happening. It's really a huge bug that needs to fixed, hopefully soon, better late then never.

Do you have the atronoch stone?
Did you take the atronoch perk in the alteration tree?
Do you have mods that help you absorb magicka?

There is one positive to he Spell Absorption bug. If you cast summon flame atronach for example, and you absorb the spell, you will absorb the spells base cost, after any skill or enchantment reductions, meaning you can recover magicka this way. This also seems to even happen sometimes when the spells are successfully cast.

I've never had a raise dead spell not work, so you could try that, too.

Unfortunately, recovering your magicka this way is cold comfort when a gang of Draugr Deathlords equipped with ebony bows is bearing down on you, while your Sanguine Rose staff fails to conjure a Dremora Lord again and again and again. That happened to me the other night.

It does seem to matter which summons you're trying to raise, though. I can cast atronachs and even a Flame Thrall and have them appear the first time almost every time, but with the Sanguine Rose, or the Conjure Bonewalker or Mistman spells, the summons almost never appear before I'm forced to give up and try something else.

Do you have the elemental potency perk? There is a bug with it that stops summoning staves from working properly.

I only use atronachs as summonings, still they emerge after 2-3 times i try.Bty i just did the quest that leads you to Sovangarde and i faced, perhaps 20 Draugr Deathlords. It was bloody awful when i tried to cast summon storm atronach and it couldnt work....

Yes I do. I have the Atronach stone and the Atronach perk in the Alteration tree as well. It's probably a miracle that I can conjure anything.

I'll have to keep that in mind the next time I roll a conjurer - this character just completed the main quest a couple of nights ago. I've got a couple of other minor things I want to do with her, and then I'm going to retire her by taking her back to Lakeview Manor to live out the rest of her days with her family.

Daedra_Pet, check your active effects. You should see any spell absorption effects there. If you've taken the Atronach Stone, you can easily fix this simply by taking a different standing stone. If you've taken the Atronach perk, there's nothing you can do except reload a save from before you took it, if you have one. These two effects are the only permanent sources of spell absorption in the vanilla game, including DLCs, so I'm certain you have at least one of these two effects active. If by some chance you are using a mod that is giving you spell absorption, you can disable that mod, or try using the Unofficial Skyrim Patch which is supposed to fix this issue.

Wasn't that fixed? I have Elemental Potency and summoning staves work fine for me.
