So why is Auriel's Bow..less than a Daedric Bow in damage?

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 3:38 am

This makes absolutely no sense to me. Why is an Artifact less than that of..a crafted item? I mean, wow? I don't even understand that.

"Hey guys, here's this really awesome, unique, special bow that's not as good as the one you can make. Have fun!"

Incentive to invest heavily in smithing and to counterbalance the strength of the bow's enchantment and enhanced speed.

Because it does things that crafted bows can't, basically.

Sometimes less is more? :P It's not a written rule that all unique must be the best of their class... Nightingale Bow isn't either.

Because artifacts are not always meant to be stronger than crafted weapons. Auriels Bow is not meant to be the strongest weapon in the game, it's meant to be a weapon able to blot out the sun or do extra damage against the undead.

Has been this way since Daggerfall, at least Ariel's bow has unique effects.

I really can't get it to kill vamps like it should. It has charges and all but I swear my upgraded Dwarven crossbow does more damage. Both have been smithed up.

Its an area effect special enchantment. You can hit multiple targets at one time with the sunlight attack. No other bow can do that.

I think the bow's usefulness is in its unique features, sun damage and blocking the sun.I always use the latter in my vampire characters.

Auriel's Bow is a light bow based on the Elven bow, I think, and so does less damage. The light bows draw and shoot faster but do less damage per hit. Not sure if there are any DPS calculations out there. Does it outdamage a Glass (or Dragonscale, if they exist) bow?

Good point, but I'm happy it is the way it is.

Getting the best bow from DLC you can complete at level 8 is sort of lame.

I like the idea of whatever you making becoming the most legendary item.

Years from now... "Do you know what that is?! That's the bow of the Dragonborn!"
