Can you import textures from Oblivion into Skyrim?

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 3:38 am

I have textures, mainly hair, face (a mole red lips, etc) for my companion Viconia that were done custom for me for Oblivion. Obviously these would be a real pain to recreate from scratch (especially since I've never done it before).

I'm wondering if I can import these into Skyrim. They're still simply .dds files, right?

Is this possible or do I have to recreate it (something I have no idea how to do). Is there a known process on how to do this or a tutorial somewhere (I have yet to find one).

If not, any volunteers to port them? :D

Any help appreciated.

*ping*

Can someone at least point me to a tutorial? I have all of the nif and dds files I just need someone to walk me through how to set them up in the CK.

There are ZERO tutorials on this!

Well yeah, you can, but the UV mapping is probably different, so the textures probably aren't going to be mapped correctly on the Skyrim models. You would have to import the Oblivion models as well. Because of that, ti's probably easier to just make new ones.

I don't know though, the mapping might be close enough that it would work right. That seems really unlikely though.

I have read previously that the reason there are not tutorials for this is because Bethesda doesn't want people porting things from one game to another. But I suppose in your case it's not relevant since yours is custom made.

I am definitely no expert on this, but I do know that the .nif files are different. Also body parts have two .nif files (one each for the extremes of the weight slider in the character generator).

Textures in Skyrim are also .dds files. And you might be able to adjust your textures to fit the current Skyrim .nif files.
