Version control, Network.INI problems

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 5:17 am

I am trying to enable version control. I've set up the INI files as per the tutorial, and am navigating to the ConstructionSetNetwork.INI file which is located in a network-shared folder, but I keep receiving this error message:

"Only full paths are allowed. Please select the file through a network path that includes the machine name."

I don't have any idea where to go from here, so could somebody explain to me what is wrong here? And if I may ask, could this info be included in the Wiki tutorial as well, as it completely omits this step.

(All reports say it's an absolute nightmare to get working)

Even if the network-share is on the machine you are using as a client, you have to use the "full Path" in the ini file:

//mymachine-name/myfolder-name

And try to use an "easy" folder ... and certainly not one in User-Directory, if you can help it ...

(but see the comment at the top ... I see very few - if any - posts proclaiming anyone has it working 100%)

Last I saw Ducie on here was trying to get this to work ... never saw him post he had it working though. A few others on here might be able to help ... the big mod teams are using it (but I think only for merging ESPs into ESM files ... and only 1 team member actually using the VC system)

These are the Network entries in my SkyrimEditor.INI as of now:

sNetworkPath=\\KennethWin7-PC\Merging\
sNewVersionBackupPath=\\KennethWin7-PC\Merging\VersionBackup\
sNetworkMasterPath=\\KennethWin7-PC\Merging\Data\

Obviously KennethWin7-PC is my machine name.

You mean:

sNetworkPath="\\KennethWin7-PC\Merging\"

?

(at least I think you need the quotes)

If you do mean that ... then sadly looks OK to me ... if you don't mean that, try with the quotes.

(I'll have a dig and see if I can find some of the older topics on VC)

Ugh... wow. How cryptic is that.

The CK didn't want me to open the folder via the conventional means, it wanted me to route through the network directory to select the folder.

Once I did that, the CK booted, and as far as I can tell, version control is functioning correctly (since I was able to generate the needed files immediately afterward).

Good news you got it working. :)

And cryptic is a good description of the CK and many of the "instructions" that don't come with it! ;)
