CK 1.6.91 works a lot better with Skyrim 1.7

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 5:52 am

Just a heads up for those folk who kept the CK 1.6.91 and the files that came with it. It works a lot better than it did when Beth first released, then retracted it.

For those of you who downloaded 1.6.91, you'll remember all the erroneous errors at startup. Skyrim 1.7 seems to have cured this. No errors at all when starting, just back to the usual Skyrim.esm error report that's been there from the start.

I don't know if anything is different (can't remember why it was pulled in the first place), but I'm using it and so far, I've had no problems.

Does anyone remember why it was retracted ?

The armor bug. A mod that adds custom or edited armors resulted in NPC's wearing no armors and a whole bunch of related stuff getting botched.

Gotcha. I'll keep using it for the time being. It seems more stable than 1.6.89 and I'm only landscaping atm.

I seem to also remember a first person geometry missing problem with edited races... might be worth checking if those issues are still happening with 1.7.

As I seem to recall, wasn't everyone saying that version was supposed to support Dawnguard? (At the time, Dawnguard seemed a long way off...)

Keep in mind that 1.6.91 is not some kind of CK brought from the future. It's just something intended for a later version of the game, but as you develop things you make changes. If they didn't adopt finally the new features in 1.6.91 it will be as incompatible as back then.

It works fine for what I'm doint at the moment. I was still getiing the occasional lock up with the open file dialog box, but it never happens with this version.

Even landscape editing seems a lot more stable. For me, older versions used to lock up after about 20 minutes of painting textures. This version hasn't locked up once.

Maybe I'm doing something different :)

Or maybe the 1.6.91 release was meant to accompany the Dawnguard release and they haven't gotten around to it yet (or forgot about it) since it seems Beth was focused on that convention.
