Change Your Race. Change Your Race?

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 4:57 pm

Now I've noticed many a thread about 'respeccing' (THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE THREADS), but here's something I noticed in Elder Scrolls Wikia.

According to the Nords, Hermaeus Mora is known as Herma-Mora or also known as "The Demon of Knowledge." In ancient Nord Lore, he was an Atmorian demon who almost seduced the Nords into becoming Aldmer.

Now this struck me a bit... Would there be a bit of knowledge in his realm that would/could give us the chance to change races?

Asking this, just know; I'm quite alright if we couldn't do this, I'm also quite alright if we couldn't respec either... But both are optionable in Apocrypha.

So, what do you think? Is this a possibility that Bethesda would take advantage of? Or is this a probable piece of lore that will be set aside. Or am I just taking this all out of context? Thoughts?

To avoid hatred from people, use uesp to reference anything, it's also safer because there is less crap on the site.

To answer your question. I doubt they'll have a race changing option. I don't think we should think of this as a piece of lore that is set aside, it's being taked a bit of of context.

lol, believe me- I know it's a bit out of hand. Consider this just a typed out thought.

And my Avatar is Zach Galifianakis, I seriously hope you know who that is over Epic Meal Time. lol.

And I kinda figured so, Believe me- I'm against respeccing, so I'm not for re-racing either. Again, it kills the 're-play' value of it all.

You're not taking it out of context per-say, rather putting too much stock in what is essentially folk-lore.

Now, is it possible? In a sense. Azura was able to change the Chimer into the Dunmer, after all. But its not something I want to see happen ingame, along with respeccing.

It would be boring to a Daedra Lord to change a simple person. Its more funny for them to change a whole race.

Well, that is technically also a legend/myth - and it wasn't as much a change of race as it was a change of label. The Chimer got
dark skin and red eyes, but that's it. They were like Michael Jackson in reverse - Michael Jackson was still considered black when he got
white... That's probably a bad anology (and kindda' of a racist one too) but I think it's fun to think of it like that.

If you wanna' talk about somebody changing races, I think Orcs would be more suitable.

I have actually thought about this before. as in yesterday. idk why, i think i was thinking about how I wished there was an option at the end of the tutorial to be able to redo your masterpiece, and then thought about how HM would play into that if at all.

I know I'm probably going to get a lot of hate thrown at me for this but: I would be OK with the idea.

I doubt that I would indulge in it, but if you step back from the fact that you are playing a game and it is a way to make a change work in game without it being lore breaking (hard to do I know), what are we really talking about here?
The idea is that a twisted dangerous being, with limitless knowledge, is offering to turn you into something other. Because, lets be clear, in game terms it would just be pulling up the race menu and letting you fiddle with it for a few, but in lore terms this would be akin to things mentioned above. Give a Nord pointy ears and yellowed skin and he is still a Nord. Change the fundamental structure of the persons being, and they will be different. I doubt HM is going to give the player just a face lift.

I really don't think it will happen, but I know if the big green piles of offal offers to make me something else, it is going to make me stop and really think about what that means for both the game world, and my character.

Probably not going to happen, since if you change your race with the console it resets your skills. I'm pretty sure there was a way to get it to work, but not in a lore-friendly way. So it would be hard to get it to work on consoles
