custom worldspace map shows nothing but white cloud

Post » Sun Nov 18, 2012 3:39 pm

I'm creating a custom worldspace, but having problems whereby I'm unable to get the in-game map to display my custom landmass (i.e. when selecting the main map in game by selecting 'B' on the control pad and then selecting 'map').

I've followed this tutorial ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kB2rqH7Ytko) to generate LOD for distant scenery, and the distant LOD now shows up fine when testing my custom worldspace in the game, but when selecting the map view my custom landmass doesn't show. It will show locations that I've added within my worldspace but not the landmass, just a blanket of white cloud: http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/7963/tesv2012082117465798.jpg

I haven't used a heightmap when creating my landmass, I'm just editing it using the landscaping tools within the CK, so I don't know if this would have any bearing on it...?

I followed the instructions to a tee in the above tutorial, and like I say, the distant LOD shows in the game just fine, so I must be doing something right. I've generated the LOD twice now in the time I've been working on my worldspace and the same thing has happened with the map not showing my landmass. Also, if I go into the map, bring the view down low, and then go out of it again, I can actually see my landmass appear for a split second just as it leaves the map screen, which seems odd...

I don't know if I've set something incorrectly within the worldspace menu in the CK maybe? For the record, here are my worldspace settings: http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/5879/fsscr011h.jpg (note my worldspace is meant to be completely separate to the Tamriel worldspace)

Also, with regard to climate in a new worldspace...could I use the 'use climate data' dropdown...or would it be best to use the region editor for this??

Any help would be appreciated.

That cloud layer is a nif of the Skyrim clouds.

To get rid of it, make sure this is in your Skyrim.ini file.
[MapMenu]

sMapCloudNIF=0

The in game map uses the Worldspcename.32.x.y.dds files. I think this is the 1/8 level in Oscape.
Regenerate this level with Oscape and place appropriately in your Data/Textures/Terrain/Worldspace folder and report results.

Also, how big is your worldspace? How many cells across by how many cells high?
You might just be able to use the CK as an LOD generator. As long as your worldspace isn't too high.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I did try what you suggested, and I actually went over the LOD tutorial again from the beginning for good measure, and it turns out I *had* actually omitted copying a couple of the folders containing some of the lod.nif files that I'd extracted from the Meshes.bsa into the data/meshes folder... Yet now, after doing the tutorial again, I'm seeing buildings and mountain objects on the map (presumably from the lod.nif files that I'd previously omitted), but *still* not the land itself. The .ini file tweak only seemed to get rid of the wispy cloud layer (i.e. the land still shows as the same white colour, but just without the wispy cloud effect)

Incidentally I've noticed my data/textures/terrain/CustomWorldspaceName folder has a 'land' subfolder which doesn't contain any files? Should this be correct??

To answer your question, my worldspace is currently only fairly small (13 x 13 cells) although I plan to make it considerably larger.

You'll have to generate a new worldspace.lod file with Oscape. You can do this on the Installer tab. Put a tick in the box (Generate) at the top left hand side.

This may cause problems with your static lods. If so, you'll have to download LOD File Generator from the Nexus and see if the file it generates works with landscape and static lod.

Did you set up the map settings in the Worldspace window in the CK? Copy the settings in the Tamriel worldspace then edit them to meet your lands needs. If you don't set these things up it could potentially cause issues when viewing the map.

It worked after doing that. I thought doing that was only required for much larger worldspaces, but nonetheless, it has worked fine. I've had a good look around my worldspace keeping an eye out for problems with any static LODs but so far haven't found anything out of the ordinary, everything seems fine, so many thanks for your advice. I'll just generate the worldspace.lod with Oscape from now on whenever I regenerate.

Not as such, but I'll have a look at editing them with regard to my worldspace co-ordinates if that's what's required. Btw, kudos for doing the tutorial, it's been a lot of help :goodjob:
