Just a quick Q. Started playing Dawnguard and i became a vampire before actually starting any of the dawnguard quests. Vampire, not vampire lord. I took the woman to the castle and declined the offer to be a Vampire lord because they look awful and the controls are just terrible.

However id like to remain a normal vampire. Ive since spoke to the guy at Fort Dawnguard and he hasnt really said anything about my being a vampire. So, my question is this. Are there any problems with being a vampire and continuing with the Dawnguard faction?

So i can just be a vampire that works with the Dawnguard and thats no problem at all?

You cannot be any sort of vampire and be in the dawnguard at the same time. you would need to heal yourself, complete the questline (or at least up to the point where you no longer need to talk to them) and then change back. if you are ANY sort of vampire you cannot talk to, buy things, or take quests from any member of the DQ.

Well ive been a vampire since before i started Dawnguard and ive just been given a quest to go find Gunmar and Sorine. So i think you may be wrong.

Im not talking about being a vampire lord, i mean a standard vampire.

When you return to the fort with Gunmar and Sorine, you will understand why you cannot be a vampire.

There is a mod out there which allows it, but you are better off seeing just what manner of mad fanatic Isran is.
More or less counterpart to Harkon who is also mad.

I think the DG main quest has some flaws in logic in this regard, but no, you cannot remain a member of the Dawnguard if you are any kind of Vampire. I even tried getting cured at the *appropriate time* and then getting re-infected later, but this isn't allowed either. If you wish to be a Vampire and do the Dawnguard quest you will need to be cured and consider where your preferences and loyalties lie after the dust has settled.

Someone should mention to Isran that the original Dawnguard were probably all Vampires...

Aren't you just like a regular vampire when you are an untransformed vampire lord, just with the changed fire resistance so it isn't as damaging.

For the beginning of the questline they ignore that you're a vampire, but there is a cut off point where they will deny you completely.

Well, it's better than having them use you to wipe out vampires and then backstab you...

I use the mod on the nexus that allows you to be a vampire and join the dawnguard and it works fine (though after a certain point you need to use the console to force the game to give you a follow up quest)
