Just bought Dawnguard and need help.

Hello,

Just a quick question, i just bought dawnguard but didn't have any old saves of high level characters having not played in a while, i got to level ten and suddenly vampire attacks started, only problem is they killed my npc's, Belethor is a (well-deserved) pile of dust and skulvar sable-hilt won't be needing his horse-pooh raker where he's gone, only problem is, i don't really want them dead.

Are they being killed because i am low level and citizens are possibly weaker at level 10? Should i turn off dawnguard till i reach a very high level, would that improve citizen's chances of survival? Or are they going to get killed all over the place no matter what level i am? Am i wrong in thinking that passive citizen's level up at all?

Also, another curious thing is that Ysolda (Nord lady that asks you to get her a mammoth tusk) seems to have taken over Belethor's shop, now that would be great, except when i talk tto her and choose "ehat do you have for sale" the menu comes up, both hers and mine are totally empty, no transactions can be made yet she has about 800 gold.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I cant understand how this happens to so many. Must be unlucky. I completed dawnguard twice both on low and high level and I never even experienced more than maybe 1-2 vampire attacks in total. None of which caused casualties. Just try to save more often maybe? :)

I would recomend not having dawnguard installed until you are ready to do its MQ straight through without stopping in any cities. It doesn't matter what level you are at. In fact, the higher you go, the worse it gets for the NPCs since the vampires scale with you but the town NPCs don't.

The thing about these vampire attacks is that they only happen inside city walls at nights (as far as I know at least). So if you don't want to uninstal Dawnguard, just avoid walking inside cities from dusk till dawn; if you already visit a city, stay inside your house, at an inn, etc. If you already have to go out, make a save just before you do so; if any vampires attack and kill any citizens, just reload.

I'd like to buy Dawnguard (I've waited for a price drop, but it's still the same), and I'd like to know more bout those vampire attacks you mentioned! What are they? Do they stop after a certain quest? I hate when random events kill random NPCs...

If you're on PC, you can mod them out totally.

If you're not on PC, it's Russian roulette as to whether you'll be plagued by near constant town attacks killing vendors and quest givers or if they'll actually stop when you complete Dawnguard. The vampire attacks were a stupid idea that make a DLC take precedent over the core game and are bugged to buggery.

I'm on PC, I'll take my chances, do the MQ as carefully as I can and if they don't vanish afterwards I'll mod them out! I like the idea of dragons and vampire attacks, but there should be some built in option to let people decide how many random dragon and vampire assaults they want!

The vampire attacks were to make it so that the player couldn't ignore the DG's MQ. Its a veritable vampire apocalypse so they aren't not going to make it feel like one, incentive to play DG.

The attacks SHOULD end when the DG MQ does. Though there is a bug that can prevent that. Some people still get attacks, most don't.
