NPCs won't enter cell

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 3:56 am

Hello,

I'm having trouble with getting an NPCs AI packages in order.

The NPC is supposed to patrol Karthspire camp and then sleep in Sky Haven temple. But he doesn't enter it. He does everything as he's supposed to, but when the clock hits 10 pm he just stands still. I've made NPC come in and out of interior/exterior cells without problem before, I just don't know what the problem with this one could be.
Does anyone have an idea?

It sounds like the NPC has no where to go at 10:00pm. Try setting up a "test bed" inside the cell and assign it to your NPC. Maybe that will work.

Tried that, didn't work. If I place him inside Sky Haven Temple and load a game after 10 pm in game, he is inside the temple and goes about his business. Then he goes outside in the morning but refuses to go back inside in the evening even though he has a sandbox AI package starting at 10 pm telling him he should be inside Sky Haven Temple.

Who owns the Interior Cell? (Sky Haven Temple ... Right click cell in Cell View and select Details ... or Edit (I forget). There should be an Owner Info somewhere. Does your NPC have rights to enter (Factions?)

If the door is locked, there may also be an owner of the door (right click the door in the Render Window) ... does your NPC have rights?

Is this a vanilla Interior? If it is, have you added any doors? If you have, are their triangles sitting on the navmesh?

That's about all I can think of ...

I have a question: When you are observing your NPC at 10:00 how close are you? Try standing back at distance and don't let them see you when the time comes. I remember I had a problem like this when I was modding Oblivion.

It's owned by the blades faction and my npc is in it.
The door isn't locked and I haven't been adding doors. But I do have a mod (Sky Haven Temple enhanced) running.
I'll try without the mod, and I'll try standing at a distance

Stand at a distance ... It could well be this, If an NPC detects the player it runs a few events, those events could stop your package continuing.

If you have planned NO INTERACTION between your NPC and other NPC ... then you can turn OFF AI-Detection (temporarily) while you watch your NPC go about his business.

In game, bring up the console, then type:

ToggleDetection
You can then follow him and he will completely ignore you (and ANY OTHER NPC/Actors).

Bring up console and type it again to switch detection back on.

Ha!
Seems the problem is the Sky Haven temple Enhanced mod. When I loaded the game without it, he went inside as told. But I'd like to have both mods running, so I'll have to figure out what exactly is the problem with the other mod.
Thanks for the replies guys!
