I noticed this too. If I save, quit, restart and then load that save the dialog appears fine.

In my case the companion I'm working on has another quest begin when you tell her to initially follow you. The quest begins and is at stage 10. The bug comes out because the dialog line that is supposed to appear when you activate her never shows up. If I save my game, quit and then restart and reload the game the line of dialog appears fine when I activate her. It's the strangest thing and I hope they fix it.

Simply starting the game again and loading my last save.

Simply starting the game again and loading my last save. The process is:

1. I get to stage 10 of the custom quest. Dialog doesn't show up when NPC activated.
2. Quicksave
3. Exit the game.
4. Start the game.
5. Load last saved game.
6. Dialog appears.

It's likely a different issue then. What's the context of your problem?

No, it's still most likely the dialogue bug. That fix doesn't work for everyone. It seems random who it works for and who it doesn't.

I really hope 1.8 fixes this for good. (And that we get it soon...)

Have you tried Sollar's (post 2 in B1gBadDaddy's) second workaround

2. Start the Quest AFTER the game is loaded (in other words, don't use the "Start Game Enabled" option)

I set up a trigger which activates the quest as the player walks through. So far to date, my quest dialogue always appears.

I'll uncheck the "Start Game Enabled" option and see if that works. I actually don't need it anyway since the quest is triggered from another quest.
