Dragon NPCs and walking

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 1:56 am

Hi, I'm trying to make a mod with a very small dragon npc follower (about the size of a dog) and it works almost perfectly. There is only one problem, I can't get it to stay on the ground while walking in uneven terrain. It will stay on one level most of the time and only adjust it ever so often (after no discernible pattern), which causes it to walk through the air, or into the ground. Being partially in the ground will also cause its legs and wings to go crazy.

If i edit the race and take the ability to fly away, it will stay on the ground but it will go stiff while walking barely moving the legs with everything else frozen in the position it was in when the dragon started moving (it only goes back to normal when i come close enough for the head-tracking to kick in and while the dragon is not moving), also it will not fight this way.

I also tried disabling its walking ability so it will only fly, but then it doesnt follow indoors at all and outdoors it will skip to my position every now and then (the pattern behnd which i couldnt figure out either)

Any help would be appreciated. Or is this a futile endeavour? (I'm sure i'm not the first to try my hand at a dragon follower mod)

You're not the first (on here) to try a Dragon-Follower mod ... but you are the first I've seen trying to get a Dragon to walk properly.

I wonder whther your problem is "simply" the animations applied to a dragon (or lack, thereof) when walking on uneven ground?
And/or I wonder whether there are backend - we can't touch - routines that control animations in a similar way

Sorry I can't be more help ... with this bump maybe someone else can?
