Is Dawn Guard like the Civil War

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 4:56 am

So in playing as the Dawn Guard i have killed harkon and i was wondering is it basically the same way but instead you kill Isran? I'm also going to guess you corrupt Auriel's Bow.

I've moved your thread to the spoilers section.

Do not post spoilers in the Dawnguard General Discussion forum.

No, Its worse than that. The quests are EXACTLY the same except for the first one. So that being the case, You STILL got to kill harkon as a vampire. Even though I would never of betrayed him as he was my master. Totally ruined my rp.

This. You can choose between Dawnguard and Volkihar but the quest lines are almost identical, just a bit of different dialogue. Either way you are forced to go with Serana. It isn't a "see it from the other perspective" sort of thing which is disappointing.

I suppose you could have just let him kill you, as that was your Masters wishes.

I would of let him kill me. but it wasnt an option to state that in the dialog. Why would I betray him? He makes me the 4th only vampire lord in the game outside his family. My character is lucky to be in his service.

Oh and serena thinks harkon doesnt love her? He just gave me a form that allmost matches his own power for saving her and he doesnt even know if he can trust me yet. Yet he was so grateful I helped his daughter he risked it anyway and shes the one that wants to kill him? Wheres my betray serena option?

The question is, why did they write it that way to begin with? We should have had the choice to side with him and ACTUALLY end the tyranny of the sun instead of get a crappy little bow that doesn't even work when it's too cloudy. There's no choice or consequence in this game. Everyone ends up doing the same thing regardless of personality or player choice. I cant believe vampires can join dawnguard (you'd think seasoned vampires hunters could spot a vampire) or that dawnguard can become vampire lords! (Oh I just destroyed all these monsters! I hate them so much! But I'm gonna become one because....Bethesda really wants me to..?)

NO. Dawnguard is NOT a civil war. Civil war has a quest that starts in two different places and has two different ultimate enemies. DG starts in one place, diverges a few times, and you still kill the same enemy. A lot better than the civil war in a lot of ways, but not in that way. The quests are pretty awesome for both parties, especially the radiant quests and side quests.

so it would be cannon no matter what.
TES has done non-canon endings before. Keeping the Umbra sword in Oblivion, for example, goes against what is said in Lord of Souls. Killing Lucien Lachance before joining the Dark Brotherhood, as well, goes against the events of Skyrim.

Well it's half a gift and half an ultimatum. I don't think Harkon wants to be discovered by anyone and in Harkon's mind, if you become a vampire lord, then you can't start blabbing to the Dawnguard because you're a vampire lord too. At least that seems to be the most logical thing.

And Harkon does not love Serana as he did a long time ago. He's only grateful because he needs her blood (since Valerica's blood is unobtainable) to fulfill the prophecy.

but they decided not to so people wouldn't complain about their choices not mattering in the next game. but now they are complaining that there isn't enough choices.

Conclusion: [censored] will never be happy.

Edit: Whoa, why did that censor? Long time fans will not be happy was what I was trying to say. I didn't realize [censored] was a swear word on the forums.

I'd rather they give us the option and let it be non-canon later. Sure some people would complain, but people will always comaplain. I think more people would be happy if we actually had options rather than just chickening out and limiting us because five years later some people will have a hissy fit that they didn't use the "right" ending.

When did people complain about that? I don't recall Oblivion giving us any choice but to do the good girl endings all the time.
