Civil War vs. Season Unending

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 11:25 am

I have Season Unending Active- and I am starting the Civil War. This is my 2nd playthrough and I actually really enjoy the Civil War quests. (Stormcloak!) Should I do Season Unending BEFORE I finish the Civil War, or should I stop right before or after Fort Neurgard and then come back? Help!

If you want to extend the Stormcloak side of the Civil War, really stick it to the Stromcloaks during Season Unending. Pick the pro Imperial choices and extend the playthrough, or set up the quests to avoid or fix a problem like Markarth Gaurds trying to arrest your character after No One Escapes Cindha Mine.
EDIT. The choices you make during Season Unending can affect the Armor somone near Forelhost has equipped. This can make a difference to somone who did not loot a complete set of Stormcloak Officer Armor, or wants a second set for a Companion.

If you do Season Unending, you'll have to finish the Main Quest before being able to finish the Civil War quests. However, now that you have it in your journal, I'm not sure if finishing the Civil War quests first will break the Main Quest. The reason is, if you finish the Civil War before a certain point in the MQ, you'll never get Season Unending at all. So I'm not sure if having it and not completing it will cause problems.

As I see it, the two safest things to do are 1) do Season Unending and finish the MQ, then finish the CW or 2) go back to before finishing Alduin's Bane and finish the Civil War and then finish the MQ.

I'm not exactly an expert on this, though; maybe others will weigh in with better advice?

If you want to do the negotions, then I would not advance the Civil War. There comes a point in the Civil War, pretty early on, where you no longer can do the negoations part, you just have to advance the Civil War all the way through to the end before you can procede with the MQ.

Have you joined the Stormcloaks yet? I think there might be a problem if you have Season Unending active and are in the middle of the Whiterun quests, or attempt to join them while SU... is active. I would either finish SU first and join afterwards, OR (if you have joined them) finish the Whiterun quests and do SU before Fort Neugrad.

Oh, and a tip: walk to/from High Hrotgar with Ulfric. Unexpected things tend to happen. :)

I am at the point where I am ready to start Fort Heugrad, so Whiterun is finished. I guess I'll finish the MQ and then come back. I would like to extend the Stormcloak line....I guess I'll have to 'stick it' to my brotherhood!

Season Unending is such an awesome quest line and really brings the war to life.

Yes. unexpected things do happen. That in itself was great for RP and immersion.

Really, there's not much of the MQ to do after that; it goes pretty fast. Depending on your level/game difficulty, it can be pretty epic, though!

I did Season Unending at about the point where you're at, and it was my favorite iteration of that quest. They did a great job of acknowledging where you are in the story- Ulfric treats you like a confidant, Vignar is there and Tullius starts off whining because he's lost Whiterun.

The best part was walking with Ulfric and Galmar down the 7000 Steps afterward.

Things like being beaten senseless by every Imperial guard he insists on fighting, walking slower than molasses in January, and getting stuck on the 7,000 Steps?

Because all those happened to me.

BTW, I'm with Esbern in all this -- the two sides are so wrapped up in their respective Manichean visions that they're ignoring the real threat.

I also like how Delphine basically tells Ulfric to piss off.

All the NPCs have slow walk speed. I hit continuous walk and every once in a while do a recon pattern to let them catch up. I did have to FUS him once or twice when he got caught on the steps.

As for getting beaten, never seen that myself. More like he shouts the bears and trolls off the side of the mountain and I loot their corpses on the way down. Outside Ivarstead we ran into a Thalmor patrol. That was fun.
