Well I've been wondering since I was asked to open the way to the courtyard, does the vamps actually move or walk in the courtyard, other half of the castle, or do they just stay in Harkon's Side of the castle?

They do not move into the other parts. You can clear a path to the courtyard, And you can bring Valerica back to her and out of the soul cairn, but that is sadly about it...
