Getting the creation kit...

Does it matter if I buy Skyrim from Gamestop? Or do I have to buy it off steam to get the creation kit?

No matter how you buy Skyrim you have to download and install Steam, and activate your copy of the game through it. You may then acquire the CK in the Tools section.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question... I'm still waiting for my pc to be delivered to my home soon but I would like to prepare now. So how does activation work exactly?

The reason I ask is because I already bought Skyrim from gamestop but have not yet opened it. And I do not feel like paying for this game three times.(first time for xbox) I recall reading posts from people who are unable to get the creation kit if they bought it from a retail store. The creation kit does not appear on their steam account. Some elaboration would be greatly appreciated.

You shouldn't have any problems with the retail version and getting the CK. I got mine on 11-11-11 and haven't had any issues with acquiring the CK, anyhow.

If you get a hardcopy, the key should be inside the box somewhere (not sure where for non-CE version). You just enter the key and it'll check for/install steam which you use to acquire the Creation Kit via View > Tools > Creation Kit > Install.

Once you get your new computer, go to http://store.steampowered.com/ and click 'Install Steam'. Install it and create an account. Run the program and log in. Then click Games > Activate a Product on Steam...

You then enter the code that will be printed on your Skyrim Manual, and the game will be locked to that Steam account. You then click Library, then select Tools from the dropdown (It's a hidden dropdown, it will say 'Games' by default), and select the Creation Kit and say install. It should show up no matter where you purchase the game since it all wraps together in Steam.

EDIT: Also if you just put the disc in when you open the box I think it directs you through the entire thing. (Steam install, activate, and all that jazz)
