As part of the Dark Brotherhood quest line in vanilla Skyrim, whenever I try to go into the Dawnstar Sanctuary in the "Cure for Madness" quest, my game freezes. This is the first time I've gone to enter the sanctuary right after talking with Arnbjorn. I enter the correct passphrase, the game goes to the loading screen, I can see the smoke and my current level progress but nothing else. This is where the game freezes. I cannot alt+tab out or use ctrl+alt+del to close Skyrim. In order to get out I have to manually turn my computer off then back on.


I've searched the web and have tried some of their solutions. I've let the game sit for awhile and that didn't work. I have also tried to load from the quicksave as well as saves further back in the quest line. None of these have worked.

I've seen elsewhere on the web a list of console commands. I am not sure where to begin or if they would help but could I use console commands to fix my bugged version of Skyrim? If so, any advice on where to start or what to do? Thanks.
