Whats better, Anicent falmer armor or Dragonplate?

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 11:54 am

I use Krosis and dragonscale armor on my sneak archer guy and am about an 1H-1H30M away from getting that armor, but fully upgraded is it better, the same or worse? Well is it viable as a substitute for dragon? Like just a little worse or is it a lot worse?

**EDIT** Dragonscale not dragon plate!!!

Uh...one is Light Armor and the other is Heavy Armor, I'm not sure how you can possibly compare the two.

Without a full set, Ancient Falmer is shafted on perks. Dragon scale is superior.

Sadface, but both ancient falmer and hardened falmer armors are worse than their light/heavy dragon counterparts. And now with dragonbone weapons there's little non-RP reason to use any other sort.

Are you not using your crafting skills? Any set of armor can get you to to the 567 armor cap with the proper enchanting/smithing/alchemy/armor skill. And you can do that without using any exploits. My favored armor is elven because it is so light and because I like the look. With just the first power perk in light armor and the custom fit perk, my elven armor gives me a 700 armor rating, well above the armor cap. (Enchanting = 100, all five power perks plus insightful enchanter; Alchemy = 100, all five power perks, plus Benefactor; Smithing = 100 plus Evlen; Light Armor = 80, first power perk plus Custom Fit.) Ancient Falmer seems to provide greater armor protection than elven, but it weighs more. But I don't care cause it looks so cool!

Your joking right?! You really must not be improving anything at all! With full light armor perks, my BASE is 108. Then I upgraded it to almost 600.

Plus...
Ancient Nord Armor Base Rating - 25
Ancient Falmer Cuirass Rating - 38

That means it is equal to GLASS armor. And for the topic starter, the base is only 8 points behind Dragonplate, so assuming you have equal training in both skills, it is slightly worse, but really - it is light armor, and just as Dragonplate is second best heavy armor, glass armor (equal to Ancient Falmer) is second best light armor, so it should be fine. Assuming you have a decent Light Armor skill and accompanying perks.

The problem is, correct me if I'm wrong, there's no ancient Falmer helmet and there's 1-2 perks that rely on you wearing FULL sets of light armor. Thus, that's a 25-50% armor bonus that Ancient falmer armor is incapable of.

Did anyone who replied consider that many people don't even wear helmets, so the matching set perk is useless?

Implying that everybody goes that far into smithing. I find it a waste to go past 2-3 perks into smithing unless I want a certain style of armor. Even then it doesn't matter. You can buy everything besides Daedric and Dragon. So I usually just put 2 perks into smithng, steel and arcane.

Ancient Falmer is one of a kind you can't craft it and you only get it once. Just keep it and store it in your house. It actually looks nicer compared to other armor.

I was only referring to the base level of the skill and the base 5 perks that increase the efficiency (I forget what they are called). Plus, if you do have the other perks, just put another light helm on. You may not be able to get the increase of a full set of the same armor, but you may still be able to get an increase. But it really doesn't matter after your rating hits 567, which it would most likely would if you improve it at all even if you don't have a full set of the same armor. With my smithing and alchemy (not the restoration glitch, just plain perks and skill) I improved my shellbug helm to hit that cap alone. Shellbug Helmet - Armor Rating - 768.

[censored] hire this guy, I hadn't even thought of that. Also, the only perk you miss out on is the one for wearing a matching set. In my opinion, it's not too offensive to wear a different light armor helm with the ancient falmer set, just so you can get that bonus. The skin is really just too nifty to pass up.

haha thank you im content with what I do for work. I just want to see more of the falmer race. Same goes for the Dwemer. I would love to see a hidden away dwemer city that is stll in use by the dwemer. Maybe with an entrance similar to the atherium forge.

You can probably still quite easily smash the armour cap without needing a helmet.

What cap? With enchanting and potions, I've gotten armor waaay past 567. Especially with heavy armor maxed in perks. No restoration glitch either. I dont do this anymore, since it's really cheap even on master.

Keep in mind that the armor cap changes if you don't wear any armor on your head. Idk the cap is but it is almost 600 I think

At armor rating 567 (with armor on all parts of your body) it protects you from 80% of damage, no matter what the number is, it can not protect you from any more damage.

Yep. Each piece of Armor you wear with at least an Armor Rating of 1, adds a hidden +25 to your Armor Rating. The REAL Armor Cap is 667, but if you're wearing 4 pieces of Armor, all you need is 567 Displayed Armor Rating, since you get a hidden +100 for the 4 pieces of Armor. Clothing like Robes and such do not get the +25 hidden Armor Rating. How you figure out your Physical Damage Reduction %, is you take your Armor Rating and multiply it by 0.12. 667 x 0.12 = 80.04. Skyrim ALWAYS rounds down, and the cap is 80% for Physical Damage Reduction.

Lolz, I didnt know that. Thx for clarifying. Thats still too much damage absorbtion. Makes game too easy.

I kind of feel that the falmer storyline saying there could be pure falmer left out there and that the other falmer were starting to show signs of change is setting things up for them to be a playable race in the next elder scrolls game depending on time frame.
