How do you learn Soul Tear?

Post » Mon Nov 19, 2012 3:19 pm

I have looked at both Wikis and neither one helpe me.

I can't summon the dragon and I can't learn Soul Tear because of it.

I know you have to summon the dragon in Tamriel, but he won't show up. I only know one word of that shout to summon the dragon, do you need all 3 of the words to summon him and if so where do you find them at? Are all 3 words in the Carin? I've tried summoning the dragon in the Carin and still nothing.

It's seriously frustrating to say the least. Any help would be appreciated. I'm playing on the XBox, if that makes any difference.

I think so, I tried only one word by accident but he never appeared up but every time I shout all three words of power he appears to teach me one word before fighting.

He gives you all three words, so if you unlock them without a glitch, it just takes a bit of luck to actually get the summons to work, and make sure you hold the button for all three words (assuming you can actually get all three to work) My character was practically looking at his feet before he got it to work, it is a wonder there is not an animation for a successful summons with a squished Dragonborn.

durnevir teaches you his full name shout after beating him but you have to spend dragon souls to unlock each word. Once you have his full shout then find a big open area in tamriel (whiterun plains work) and look at the ground to shout for durnevir as he manifests on the ground not air. Each time you summon him he teaches you a soul tear word

Also remember, when trying to summon Durnahviir, you must do it in a place big enough to accommodate his size. If the outside area is too small, then he won't come.

 I'm so stupid.

I'll have to look again when I get home but I'm now thinking I know what I did. I unlocked one of the words but I don't think I've unlocked all 3. I have the souls to do it, but I forgot I have to unlock each one with a soul.

I can only hope that is the problem because if that isn't than the dragon never taught me the 3 words. I don't remember seeing all 3, but I'll have to check again.

Damn that is stupid if that is what I did.

better yet how do you use it? Do you use it on a living or dead body? And is it connected to your conjuration level/perks?

You use it on a living body. Not sure if conjuration affects it.

I did the same thing. When I was informed you get all 3 words at once and went to check and well you know. After all that shout unlocking you think you'd notice the little grey words but nope I didn't.

Alright well the shout come from the dragon (to summon) he gives it to you after you beat him. Then to actually summon him you need to spend 3 dragon souls on the shout. To summon him, you must be in a decent sized open area, and be looking at the ground (like a conjuration summon spell). You will need to use the shout 3 times. The dragon should give you one word each time you summon him. I hope this helps.

You have to unlock all three parts of the dragon shout then go into a clearing...or plains whatever you wanna call it...er..the areas where Giants and mammoths usually are.

Then you can use it, since hes a giant zombie dragon he needs a lot of space to be spawned in.

Then you just have to spawn him in at the same area 2 more times after that.

After I defeated Durnahviir in the Boneyard in the Soul Cairn and exited the boneyard, I killed him a second time (before he talked to me and gave me the shout ability). Have I permanently screwed this for myself? Ps no close saves available, I thought I'd done the right thing, and only checked later about how to get the achievements.

You need all three levels of the Summon Durnehviir shout. Aim at the ground in an open area. It works like a Conjuration spell, so it has to be near you. He will teach you one word of Sould Tear each time you summon him.

I've been asking that question everywhere. So far I'm mostly mocked for not knowing everything before it happens other than that you're screwed is the most common reply. Since I've started a thread and there are many others asking the same question we're not the only ones that shoot first when a dragon that just tried to kill you comes back for more, right after Valerica says hurry he'll be back.

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Summon_Durnehviir you need to know. Remember that Summon Durnehviir, despite being a shout, works as a Conjuration spell, thus forcing you too look at the ground while shouting.

If you kill him the second time you don't ever get to speak to him and don't get Summon Durnehviir.
