is EquipItem still bugged?

EquipItem:

From the wiki: A bug (verified to exist upto and including Skyrim 1.7.7.0.6) prevents magical effects from being applied to the player or actor if the item is user-enchanted.

Just curious if the above is still relevant and if so, does anyone know of an automatic work-around please?

Thanks,

edit: Basically, how do you modders who use equipitem in scripts on the player/npc's etc, get it to work with user enchanted equipment? I know most of my enchanted stuff that I wear is user-enchanted. If those don't end up working after, what's the point of having something auto-equip?

We don't. However, certain items (like weapons) that generally don't have user enchantments that affect the PC's actor values in any way are usually OK to script equip.

Since I'm not on 1.8, I can't retest at the moment.
