Is ForceGreet broken ?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 5:17 pm

Hi all,

Once again i'm struggling with Forcegreet packages. All seems fine, my actor has an alias in a quest, his dialogue is set up correctly, and his alias possess 2 forcegreet packages used at different times.

Problem is, when the forcegreet should start, my actor just executes the idle anim is set for the first info of his greet (that's how I know the package does start), but the view doesn't get in "dialogue mode", and he says nothing (actually, no subtitles, as the npc is not voiced).
If I move out of the package trigger zone and come back, he just repeats his idle anim silently. Sometimes, the anim stops halfway through, as if he was reset for some reason.

The second forcegreet, which happens later in my cell, does start (despite being set just like the first one), zoom in dialogue mode and all, but this time, the response options i'm suppose to get when he finishes his greet, just pop right from the start (which kinda breaks the suspens :))

Anyone ever experienced something like that ? Thanks for your help !

You've probably encountered the Dialogue Bug. If you save before your NPC is supposed to begin his greeting, then reload, it should fix itself. Otherwise a workaround is detailed here:

http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/810472-workaround-skyrim-dialogue-bug-fix/

Failing that you may need to record some silence where your NPC speaks, because it may be that your NPC is speaking and it's just going too fast.

Just as a note, it seems that when you don't have a player response to a piece of dialogue, the "dialogue screen" won't be forced on you and the player will be able to move around as normal, whilst the NPC still speaks. You should check to make sure, once you have the dialogue actually working, that the player can't interrupt the NPC when talking, as this could cause issues.

Hope this helps you.

Ooh, I thought the famous dialogue bug had been fixed in the last update. I'll definitely try that.
As for the NPC being interrupted, i think you may be right, i'll take a look at that.
Thanks a lot.
