Serana -- is it good-bye?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 7:33 am

Done with the main Dawnguard quest line.

Had Serana glitch out in Broaken Oar Grotto while doing some miscellanei questing, so loaded an earlier save and told her to wait in my house in Markath. Did the Lights Out quest line over, all went swimmingly and I come back to Vlindel Hall and ... she's gone. I checked every room and ... nothing. I checked Fort Dawnguard, Volkhart Castle and Darkfall Cave and Ancestor Glade. She's disappeared. I know followers get tired of waiting and can run off to their usual hideout so I read up on the glitches and checked all the places, but with no success.

Serana isn't super critical to this character now that I'm done with the main Vamp quest line but I've gotten used to her following me around and I had hoped to take her with me to get the Aetherium shards cause I haven't done that yet either.

Reloading an earlier save yet again is not an option as I accidentally saved over it. Dur. Going back to much before then would mean 2 days ago and I'm unwilling to replay that many hours of game time.

I won't cry too many tears as I have 3 other characters who haven't touched Dawnguard yet so I can just let her be in the Void on this character. I'll miss her but I'll just grab me a housecarl or one of the Dawnguard followers and get on with my life.

Just in case that's happened to anyone else ... did you find Serana again? If so, where??

Gotcha. I will go about my business then and check in Vlindrel Hall once in a while to see if she turns up. Thanks!

My Lydia disappeared for about a real life week and then just popped up behind me randomly.

If Lydia didn't max out 20 levels ago (this current character is 52) and is only handy as a pack mule anymore, I'd probably grab her and get on with life. But in comparison to Serana she's rather wimpy. I rather enjoyed having to not worry about killing Lydia with my arrows as she jumped in front of me to "tank". Good times. :)

I have a glitch where I cannot ask her to wait - will not get follow dialog afterwards, and also cannot dismiss her - she becomes completely isolated with no dialog options.

I consider you lucky you can make here wait and pick her up again! But.... I did read somewhere that she can "disappear" permanently... Maybe UESP?

Too bad, she makes a fair follower, ebut gets a bit boring after the MQ, and does not even have the same command set as a standard follower.... All I get is Do you need something, or What is it, or some other boring line now, and only Wait Trad and Dismiss options!

Turns out she needed some traveling time. Went to Dawnguard this morning and there she was. Was glad to see her too.

Also, you can ask others to follow you, and that will dismiss your current follower. That way you're not stuck.

Oh Lydia. How I miss her. I have yet to have a character past level 30 that kept her alive. But I remember the good times like when her dead body crashed my wedding. Now that is a true friend.
