This is what i want to know, too (As a PC player, olol spoiled). I like Harkon, he's a cool guy. Is it possible to side with him?

He fights you anyway as he doesn't need you anymore. The fight is therefore harder as you can't use it to stop his regeneration globe. This guy is obviously untrustworthy so why would you give him a god bow?

Even knowing this I plan to give him the bow anyway, as I can't help but love the character. Also, how could you not make the final battle into VL vs. VL? I'd rather fight darkness with darkness than resort to using a holy artifact. (I'm a PC player and my knowledge is limited, so correct me if it's not possible to fight him in VL form for whatever reason).

It was likely made with Dawnguard in mind first, vampire questline was second.

It is possible but the fight takes ALOT longer.

Sorry if my wording was unclear. I meant how could you (the player) not make the battle more epic by using your VL form instead of the bow.

You shoot yoursel in the foot, that happens.
He fights you anyway and you just made the fight harder. Only reason to give it to him is RP reasons.

I don't get why people would side with him. If you played the Dawnguard route why would you give him the bow as you've killed his forces and repeatedly stopped his plans so why would he suddenly trust you.

If you side with the vampires, Harkon even states he was going to kill you after you got the bow and your character knows that so there is no logical reason to give him the bow.

Well if you roleplay someone who honors any deal they make, it does make sense.

He tries to kill you anyway. That dialogue option is just the option for the gullible players.

The mother is no saint either. Hard to believe Sereana turned out as cool as she did.
