Discussing Vampire Glitches (With Apologies to Devs)

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 2:21 pm

One thing that frustrated me with one of my characters were a couple of glitches. #1. Thieves armor hood would visually glitch when worn and disappear while giving me a Friar Tuck haircut. I thought it was because of the half mohawk haircut. #2. Fortify Pickpocket enchantments would hurt rather than help pickpocket odds.

It turns out that both might be due to my character being a vampire.

I have only had three characters in Skyrim. Character No. 3 (Altmer, Male) spent his entire life as a Vampire (beginning at level 3, before the release of Dawnguard). He experienced both glitches described above. It was frustrating.

My big discovery was yesterday while beginning to play Dawnguard with Character No. 1 (Altmer, Male, Werewolf). He got the Guild Master armor/hood shortly before starting Dawnguard. Immediately before becoming a Vampire he could wear the Guild Master hood without the glitch; immediately after wearing the hood visually glitched. Apparently it wasn't because of the haircut.

Character No. 1 (Altmer, Male, Werewolf) and Character No. 2 (Orc, Male, Werewolf) both appropriately benefited from pickpocket enchantments. I would wager (but still need to confirm) that, like the thieves hood glitch, pickpocket enchantments now hurt odds when shortly before becoming a Vampire Lord they helped.

Any other glitches people have experienced as a Vampire? Just keep it informative so that people who play vampires know what to expect, and perhaps the Devs can address some of the issues.
Thanks!

If the developers have not addressed the vampire glitches after all this time, I doubt they ever will. The problem with the hoods is not a new one, it was around long before Dawnguard.

I actually like the TG hood glitch, if you didn't know you can wear two/three/four headpieces using the glitch.

I currently use it to wear the shrouded hood with the vampire royal armor without losing the 4 light armor pieces perk bonus.

To be honest, the shrouded hood looks much better, the apprentice hood is another contender. So you can happily wear the thieves guild hood and a clothing hood for better looks and the same stats.

I found a glitch yesterday while doing the master restoration quest where I turned into a vampire lord before going into the light. After I transformed back I had another set of vampire royal armor except it was named "Vampire Lord Armor" and it wasn't enchanted.

This topic on the forums might also be of interest to those who might read the current discussion.

I did check last night: Fortify Pickpocket items do continue to help my Male Altmer character who was first a werewolf and then a vampire (via Dawnstar). However, my Male Altmer character who was a vampire before ever attempting to use such items found pickpocket percent reduced (not improved) when using them.

@aussie: I do know the glitch is an old one. Doesn't mean some might still find it bothersome, though. I did/do, but found/find the inability to benefit from enchantments much more aggravating.

@bobjim: Thanks for the reminder. I have tried to avoid glitches like what you describe, but might give in as it would certainly make shopping (and the gear-switching that goes with it for my character) a little easier.

That is awesome. I have not found any unenchanted Vampire Royal Armor and I would love to have some to enchant on my own.

This is a sort of combination of glitches: I found as a VL, if I wore my armor and the Gaulder Amulet, I could equip an unlimited number of necklaces. Only two would be shown as equipped, but the others enchantments would show up in the active effects list.

I know that it is a glitch inherent to the Gauldur Amulet, but it only worked when I was a Vampire, not Werewolf or unafflicted.

Yea I was wearing Royal vampire armor before transforming to do the master restoration ritual, turns out I can wear them both at the same time.

From what I read about it "Vampire Lord Armor" isn't something you can aquire normally, "Vampire Lord Armor" is automatically equipped when you transform into a Vampire Lord, and removed when you revert to Human Form. It is equipped to give you some defense, as opposed to no defense (as if you where wearing clothing).
