Should i buy dawnguard?

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 10:29 pm

So dawnguard just came out for PC and i am wondering if i should buy it,i liked the dawnguard armor, crossbow and stuff, but i heard things around the internet of game breaking bugs and vampire attacks wiping out towns.

So should i buy it now or wait? Are there mods that fix these problems out already?

Well, I don't have it on the PC, so I can't talk about their bugs, but the vampire attacks are a lot less common than people make out, and if you finish the MQ, they almost cease altogether. If you are at a low level, they aren't a problem anyway, townsfolk should clear them up pretty easily. I recommend it.

But if some people who play PC say the bugs are pretty bad, I'd wait.

guess I better get through the MQ quick enough. don't want towns dying on me. :(

But as for buying it. I'd recommend it and I'm really not far into it. Playing on the PC. Having some bugs but can't tell if its from update 1.7 or dawnguard.

There is a ton of new content added to the game. I would greatly recommend it. Bugs are never good but I think the benefits outweigh the possible negatives with dg

The negatives are only bugs and some vampire attacks you can easily dispatch :) Otherwise its just addition after addition that actually stick to the rest of the game (dragonbone & crossbow weapons, new followers) and the quest is cool with interesting new environments ! Do not hesitate if you liked Skyrim (obviously you did if you came on the forum silly me :P)

Let's see....should you buy Dawnguard and get tons of extra quests, rewards, and new weapons (which are totally awesome), or spend that money at Mickey D's with a date or group of friends? Hmmm...I know that must be a hard decision, but in my opinion, it is sooo well worth the money! There is so much new content and it is a blast playing it. Plus, you will absolutely fall in love with Serana! ( Sorry, she cannot be married, lol). Get it! You won't be disappointed!

I found it to be a very good start to the DLC list for Skyrim and I think it was worth the money.

I'd say buy it. Despite the many bugs that plagued me, I still really enjoyed the DLC. Granted the story could use some work, but its a good DLC nonetheless. The VL form is very fun.

The fatal flaw in this DLC is that the vampire attacks on towns will eventually occur whether you wish to play the Dawnguard storyline out or not. Obviously upon installing the DLC, you'll want to play it out. Perhaps a number of times (depending on how much you enjoy it).

But should you eventually tire of Dawnguard and later decide to begin a new character with the intention of avoiding the Dawnguard storyline in favor of doing something else, well.... you're going to be stuck with vampires attacking towns. Nothing you can do about it apart from playing the quest out again or uninstalling the DLC.

I'm reminded of when Shivering Isles came out for Oblivion. I read a very positive review of it, but the reviewer did have one criticism in that he felt that it was too detached from the main game. Well, Dawnguard is the exact opposite. If you have it installed, and you want to start a new game, but you want to steer clear of Dawnguard's content, you can't. It intrudes on the vanilla game far too much, and if Bethesda keeps up this trend with future DLCs, well... I don't think players will appreciate having to defend cities that are almost constantly under fire from either dragons, vampires, falmer, dwemer, or whatever the future holds.

Out of the 5 characters I have right now only one has played through DG, 1 is going to and said yes, 1 isn't but I said yes to joining, and the others have said no they aren't interested. All have had that 1st attack in a town, right before you get asked if you want to join. The only one I had dificulty with is my lvl 38 hunter/explorer, she lost one person in Riften ( the Argonian female with the lexicon) All have went up 5 to 10 lvl's since being asked ( except my hunter) , no other town attack's yet.

I think the DLC is worth it. The extra content is worth it to me. I know alot of ppl have run into glitches and bug's, I've had none yet. The quest's are fun to me. JMO

Edit: I play on 360... so I don't know about the bug's on pc

By the way how many more pieces of DLC should we expect ?? More than Oblivion I hope ? (actual add-ons of course)

Mr. Howard have implied there will be 3-4. He said more than Oblivion, but less than Fallout 3. Hopefully we get one around the size of Shivering Isles :woot:

My opinion is to wait for the next Steam sale and pick it up then. the price point is way off for the PC version. I have it on Xbox and got it for 800 MS = $9.99. It's definitely worth that price but I wouldn't pay $20 for it at the moment. Just my opinion.
