Vampires attacking in townscities - an idea for Bethesda

Post » Tue Nov 20, 2012 6:31 pm

I've read a number of forum topics and experianced this for myself and I can come to the conclusion that vampires attacking towns is more of a hastle than a "fun feature" as it's been called. So Bethesda, I offer you some Constructive Criticism. For those of us who don't immediately want to start Dawnguard for any host of reasons, for those of us who play on the Xbox 360 and the PS3 (because PC gamers can mod themselves or use console commands to fix their problems), how's this for an idea. Around level 10, when the vampires start to attack the towns, for those of us who'd rather not deal with it, keep the feature in, but make a special Amulet - call it whatever you like, but it's magical enchantment will be that it stops vampire attacks in the towns and cities! I believe I've read that there is a similiar mod for ths on the PC, but I'm speaking more to those of us on the Xbox/PS3 here. That way, both camps win; if you are a fan of vampire attacks, don't wear the amulet. But if your doing something else besides Dawnguard and don't want to be EVER VIGILANT eery time you fast travel to a town and have all the townsfolk murdered and so on, slap that on before you travel and no vampire attacks! How's that for a solution - a completely fair one at that.

I suppose next you will be asking for an amulet that prevents dragons ever attacking where you are, because fighting dragons is just such a bother when you want to be doing something else. Why not ask them to play the game for you as well. If you do not want to play Dawnguard, just delete it, then you need never be worried by vampire attacks on towns.

The developer should not need to provide a cheat for those who do not want to play something that is not part of the main game and is optional DLC. We all know PC players like to cheat, that is no reason to provide cheats for console players because the DLC is just too hard for them. There are more than enough options in the game to make it easy enough for the kiddies to play with one hand.

I don't think the devs planned for a lv 10 character(or any lv for that matter) to walk into Riverwood and find EVERYONE DEAD from a vampire attack. Or to walk into Whiterun and find your favorite blacksmith dead. Or your love interest Ysolda dead and now you have a forever open quest to tell her you had arranged the marrage in Riften's temple of Mara with her. And now you can't marry someone else. Or other countless ways you can get stuck with incompleteable quests due to dead NPC.

And don't tell me that reloading old saves isn't a hassle.

I'm on the pc. I use the amulet mod that keeps vampires at bay unless scripted/found in crypts that sort of thing. Am I cheating? No I'm fixing a problem.

I just recently had an incident where a number of npcs in Whiterun were killed and I couldn't do anything about it.
I still think however that such an amulet isn't needed on the consoles. Why? Because the incident was purely my fault.
The method I used that took me to level 14 gimped me, so I couldn't do a damn thing about the attack. Had I leveled my appropriate combat skills (magic) I would have been able to better defend the city and possibly save those NPCs.

Inconvenient? Sure.
Frustrating? Certainly.
Exhilarating? Abso-friggin-lutely!

This is my first experience of a vampire attack on this level, where I was completely helpless to stop it. That's some good writing and great drama, and for it to happen so spontaneously :) , it's awesome!
Personal feelings aside, I stand with those who say "by now you should know what you're getting into" so if it's become a big problem for you then delete the content until you're at a high enough level to be able to properly deal with it. My first exposure to Dawnguard was with a level 38 assassin, and she was more than capable at handling the attacks. Daedric Weapons and Serana (or a competent follower) also help :D .

I have also learned by now that with anything new and unknown in Skyrim you should always always always save save save at nearly every moment.
  • Character level suddenly? Save.
  • Skill level? Save.
  • Come to a dungeon door you know you're going to load through? Save.
  • Finish loading through that door? Save.
  • Scraqe by in a fight? Save.
  • Fast travel? Save before and after.
Following this advice I could have easily reloaded because I saved before I fast-traveled to the stables. I don't see an issue here.

Though vampire attacks were very fun for me, they are also very damn frustrating and dangerous. The attack in Whiterun was easy because they are at the gates, but in Dawnstar there was one vampire near the Museum and 2 others on the road to Dawnstar who were fighting the Khajiit caravan. Good thing they're essentials otherwise I wouldn't have them anymore.

After I finished the Dawnguard MQ, I never had anymore vampire attacks in any of the cities/villages.

Basically you are saying the "Add On" is actually not and "Add On." It is a seperate game because it is a "Take Away" from Skyrim. Either play Skyrim or play DG, but don't ever try to play both.

A 7 year old could easily manage to play both, they would not be asking for a cheat to deactivate a major part of the DLC though. The OP is basically saying they do not want to play Dawnguard, so why bother having it. Skyrim has plenty of options to play it however you want to. DLC about a war with vampires is pretty pointless if you do not want to defend the towns against vampires. Bethesda is not going to be providing a way to take away one of the main features of the DLC because some cannot be bothered with it. You do not want to defend towns, go do the Dawnguard questline and quit hanging around towns, or yes just uninstal it and go back to playing only the main game. Or just give up playing on consoles and go get the Pc version and cheat to your hearts content. It would ruin the game, but some do not seem to be worried about that.
