I summoned Durnehviir 3 times, learned all 3 Soul Tear words

Post » Wed Nov 21, 2012 1:00 am

Any ideas?

EDIT: To clarify, each time I summoned Durnehviir he went through the dialogue saying that he'd taught me a word, but I never got the "learned new shout" text pop-up and the dramatic music, etc., and Soul Tear doesn't show up in my Shout list.

Did you unlock each word with a Dragon soul after you learned them?

Are you looking on the favourites list rather than the powers /shouts list?

No, because the shout isn't even appearing in my list. Sorry, should have been more clear on that.

No, I looked specifically in Shouts and Soul Tear isn't there.

For some reason, it can glitch and won't summon him unless all three words are known. It also may glitch if you are trying to use the shout outside of Vanilla Skyrim areas. Make sure you have enough room in the area where you are shouting. It relies on where you are 'pointing'.

Nonono, I can summon him all day long. What's not happening is Soul Tear getting learned. He's gone through all 3 dialogues as if he's teaching me the words, but it isn't actually taking place.

Are you playing on the PC? Perhaps you have a mod causing the problem.

Couple of questions:
Are you on PC?
Can you still summon Durnehviir?
If you can still summon him, does he react the same as he did when he was teaching you words, or does he act like a summoned follower and fly around and attack stuff for you?
A thought that occurred to me is that Durnehviir teaching you words may act like a word wall and you may need to be close enough to 'absorb' the word.

If you want this shout you may need to revert to an older save and go through the process again. Or console it if you are on PC with player.teachword xx007CB7 - player.teachword xx007CB8 - player.teachword xx007CB9
The 'xx' is your load order for Dawnguard.
Here's a screencap of where it should appear in your Shout Menu on PC: http://imageshack.us/a/img826/8365/soultear.jpg

He was practically on top of me every time he was summoned to teach me the words

Using the console sounds like the best option. How do I found out my Dawguard load order?

Thanks for your help! :)

Why do you need the load order? My suggestion is using the "help" command when you're in the console and search for "Soul Tear". From there, you add it via player.addshout (string). You can find most of the Dawnguard IDs over in the Gametuts forums.

To find your load order open up the menu to log into the game and instead of 'Play', hit 'Data Files'. If Dawnguard is the first on the list the numbers you need to replace the 'xx' with will be '02'. ie: player.teachword 02007CB7. For most people Dawnguard will be 02, and if it's not you can always move it up to the top of the list with the 'Modify Load Order' arrows. If it's not at the top and you don't want to move it just count down from 02 which is the top (so if you have 2 High res packs, a mod and then Dawnguard it would be 05). Hope this makes sense. :P

That did the trick! I only had to enter the first console command to get all 3 words to show up, so I guess I had the shout learned but had to "force" it to show in my list so I could unlock the words. Weird.
Anyways, thanks again for your help! :)
