I'm not entirely sure whether this is an appropriate topic for this forum. If not my applogies.

But now cannot set Steam to offline mode. Submitted this problem to Steam support last Friday (Nov 16) and have not received any response. So maybe I could try here. This is important for me since I usually have my gaming computer off line, and connect only for updates.

Things were workng fine for the past year or so. But I went on line last week for some updates, and then when I try to go off line Steam gives me the error message:

"Unable to connect to the Steam network. 'Offline Mode' is unavailable because there is no Steam login information stored on this computer. You will not be able to use Steam until you can connect to the Steam network again"

I've checked under settings, and I have the box that prohibits saving login info on the computer unchecked, so that is not the problem. (If I have it checked and try to go to offline mode it gives me a different error as expected).

I'm very disappointed that Steam support is not responding, and so I thought I might as here, since several of the games I'd like to play are Bethesda games requiring Steam.

Any ideas?

Maybe I could uninstall and re-install Steam, but would that remove all my Steam games?

You need to have logged in once with "remember my password" checked. From there on you can go to offline mode while online and if you sign out while in offline mode you will be given the choice each time you sign back in.

Thank you, but I've done all that. It's not the problem.

Everything was working fine in offline mode. Then I logged it live to get updates. I have the "remember my password" checked, and then set it to offline. Then, while I'm still online, it gives me a pop-up with the above error message.

Can anyone please help. I really want to be able to start in off line mode again!

Hmm...not sure if an actual fix but I'd try disabling remember password, then logging out, then logging back in and enabling it. So the information might be re-stored.

I might have tried that, but will try permutations of that.

Also in searching the internet I found this thread from last July about exactly the same problem I'm having. It appears the problem was on Steam's end and not my end. After the problem existing for a few days they appeared to have fixed something. But they were not particularly explicit about the problem. I may just have to wait. Oddly the July problem happended just before an American holiday (July 4th), just like mine (just before Thanksgiving).
