[SUGGESTION] World Crafts (1st expansion)

What ho,

I'll get straight to the point. Ninety-nine percent of the Elder Scrolls experience, for me, comes from the natural scenery. Simply put, hiking around in nature; watching the sky, admiring the flora and fauna, listening to the music, and so on. Don't get me wrong - I love everything about The Elder Scrolls! But I hold nothing as dear as I do Tamriel herself. One of my fondest gaming memories is from just a few years back, when I'd spend the long winter nights of Scandinavia roaming around Cyrodiil, watching the transition from sunset to night, and to dawn. You see where I'm going with this. We will now, at long last, have all of Tamriel at our disposal. We should make the most of it!
Therefore, I suggest what I'd like to call 'World Crafts' (placeholder name). In essence, World Crafts are what is traditionally known as secondary professions in other MMOs. (Fishing, cooking, archaeology in WoW, for instance.) But this name puts emphasis on the fact that they are things you do out in the world, as opposed to by the smithy.

- You would be able to pick up one (1) World Craft per character, which will then open up unique experiences for you to take part in as you play the game - both as you level up and at an endgame level.

- Each World Craft is a lot more advanced than traditional crafting, but do not have any noticeable effects on the strength of your character. They are there to act as fun and presence-inducing devices, and to further the sense of having a unique character and experience in the game.

- They can, however, bring bonuses of different kinds, even if not game-changing. These might be cosmetic alterations, vanity items, titles and ranks, unique story-lines, or possibly wares you could sell.

Below are my currently planned World Crafts.
  • Astronomer - learn everything there is to know about the skies of Tamriel! Collect ancient knowledge from books scattered around the continent, construct and upgrade your own telescope, locate stars and nebulae and draw them onto charts for others to find. Perhaps, one day, you should gain personal access to the legendary Dwemer-built telescope on top of the mountain.
  • Cartographer - venture where no Khajit has gone before: explore the farthest reaches of Tamriel and draw maps of your discoveries. Produce unique maps of different types; monster locations, beautiful vistas, notable landmarks, cities and towns, or even treasures! Why not sell one of your maps to another adventurer and make a little sum?
  • Brewer - master the fine art of brewing, and produce your own ales and spirits! Travel around Tamriel to find unique ingredients and grains to include in your concoctions, and experiment wildly in your own micro-microbrewery! Surely, your friends would like to try your drinks. Who knows, your wines may even become best-sellers at the local tavern?
  • Farmer - you prefer the simple life, but you're not one to frown on hard labour. You plough the fields, till the soil, plant the crops, and ultimately reap the harvest of your hard work. Do you sell it at the local market, or do you strive to become the best corn-grower in all of Hammerfell and display your super-vegetables on fairs?
  • Hunter - you're the master of nature, and the wilderness is your second home. Whether on the prowl for meat or sport, you care for the preservation of nature, and you treat it with respect. You carve your hunting bows from finest wood, and learn how to be one with nature through long, difficult weeks out in the wild.
  • Naturalist - similar at heart to the hunter, you care for nature above everything else. But instead of seeking prey, you want to learn as much as there is to know about your local woodlands. Behind every shrub and beneath every tree, you look for rare plants and animals to record in your notes. Perhaps the Brewer would like a word with you?
That's it for now. I hope you'll agree with me that crafting is something which could (and should) be explored further in this game in order to do the fantastic world justice and maximise its potential. It's fine if they wait until one or even a few expansions down the road, so long as it happens in one form or another!

So long.
