I'm not sure I like the idea of respawning items in dungeons

Post » Fri Nov 30, 2012 11:51 am

It feels less realistic when you visit a dungeon, kill all the enemies, pick it clean, yeah I mean by removing every plate, basket, potion to the point of over obsessive compulsive. (I guess you can say I'm that type of player, it makes it worse when there are technical frustrations as well).

Wait a while until it respawns only to discover it's all there back again. Now from the point of realism it's difficult to figure out why the dungeon reset itself. I can understand if you cleared a dungeon of falmer and bandits move in. But if that was the case then unique items from bandits that moved in should bring about their own customary items that bandits will have. It makes no sense for dwemer plates to reappear when the dungeon was picked clean earlier by me. If items were moved through a shout that caused items to be all over the place then I can understand if it resetted it back to it's original place as to avoid technical clipping.

I guess I'm saying this because I feel that it would be great to have shortages in Skyrim and to know exactly what dungeons were hit. Kind of like the wet bandits (from home alone) to know what places you've hit and something to represent you made a mark there. (My over obsession on grabbing every item in a game and storing it in chest, drawer, etc doesn't dwell well in a Skyrim, especially if your a completionist. It's hard enough that you have to live with certain consequences if an npc with a quest dies voiding that opportunity to get the quest item. I can understand things like plants regrowing ingredients as respawning because it feels natural but things like plates to be mysteriously respawn is just off.)

Anyway this is my opinion. How do you feel about the respawning in this game? Do you think it's done well or it could do some improvements.

I don't overanolyse it the way you do. I'm satisfied with the "Cleared" tag. To me it does not matter if there's a total reset or just NPC-respawn.

I actually agree, in fact, I wish dungeons didn't re-spawn at all.

Most Dungeons respawn in 30 days. There are many dungeons that do not respawn at all. Areas that you cannot trigger the "Cleared" flag respawn in 10 days.

I'm happy with this. I usually never go back to a dungeon after clearing it.

I'm sure there are some people who go back to Kolskegger mine every 30 days. They would get very mad if their gold suddenly stopped respawning. Oh well. You guys fight it out.

but the idea of finding fresh fruits in veggies buried in crypts that have been sealed for thousands of years doesnt strike you as odd? and while were at who is lighting all the candles?? and whats up with all the dead things coming back to life, last time i checked once something died it stayed dead, it didnt rise to meet whatever intruder happened upon its tomb.... thats not realistic at all and should be taken out immediately!!!!

There was only one thing I liked about Morrowind's non-respawning dungeons: once you cleared them out you could use them as a kind of "player home."

But other than that I like respawning dungeons. It doesn't make any logical sense to me that nobody would ever re-occupy these spaces. If I were a bandit and I heard through the graqevine that a group of rival bandits just got wiped out I would travel to their lair and occupy it myself, before anybody else beat me to it.

Just head-canon that bandits or whatever moved in after the previous occupants were cleared out. Problem solved.

Although it annoys me when spiders and Forsworn respawn in Redbelly Mine and Kolskeggr after completing the quests to clear them out.

This, more or less. It would be nice, in the future, to see this sort of migration more dynamically represented.

This, if it really bothers you that much then you can easily change this on the PC version. If you don't have the PC version then you need to understand that stuff like this is impossible on consoles, the amount of save game bloat from not respawning dungeons would wreck the ancient hardware.
