MoMA now considers Video Games to be art

Post » Fri Nov 30, 2012 7:45 am

Found out about this from a thread on another forum I visit, figured it'd be good to make a post on CD here. Pretty cool if you ask me. Also found out that Roger Ebert has reversed his earlier statement about video games not being art, stating that "He just don't know enough about them".

Anyways, here's the link to an official post on MoMA's blog. http://www.moma.org/explore/inside_out/2012/11/29/video-games-14-in-the-collection-for-starters/

Well it's nice that they're starting to get considered mre than just toys, but i still think Shadow of the Colossus is one of the best examples of artful games. And ICO too, of course.

And what is MoMA?

I'm not surprised everything is considered to be art.

It's about time. Video games is art in motion. Most video game artists have a degree in Fine Arts, they're the traditional artists who have change their brushes for digital brushes---actually, they still paint in traditional medium.

As a traditional artist, I'm very happy MoMA have recognized video games as genuine art.
