This is the Whiterun Bard singing Ragnar the Red: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlF_5coWCvg
This is the song unlocked by beating the main quest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWczckAZ3Mk

Ogmund the Skald singing Dragonborn comes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brnxApYlzS0
Ogmund the Skald with the song unlocked by the main quest: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmoxauxR_cc

Lisette of Solitude sings Age of Aggression: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejAS47NyXvk
Now "Tale of the Tongues" (dat one song): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y4xKjnaVv1w

My point is, it it just me or is the unlocked song performed x1000 times better across the board? Half of them sound like they're talk-singing any other song, but then suddenly everyone's friggin' Madonna for the last song. I thought they just couldn't get any voice actors who could sing or something, turns out they just didn't hit them hard enough until the end.

But why? I just don't get it. If they're all capable of performing that last song so well, why not have them perform all of them well? I guess it could be seen as a "reward" ("You saved the world with your Thu'um, encouraging hundreds of bards to finally learn how to control their own damned throats"), but Iunno, it just seems like good singing is something you'd want to be standard, not something you have to unlock.
