Discarding junk

Post » Mon Dec 03, 2012 1:43 pm

I have too much junk in my inventory, some of it I picked up unintentionally, and now I'm overloaded with stuff and want to get rid of it. I've tried shift/left-click, which worked in Oblivion, but not here in Skyrim. I also tried to unload stuff into chests and cupboards, but it doesn't go in. I'm not near any shops where I can sell it at the moment and it slows me down.
How I miss the wonderful, easy controls and journal-menus of Oblivion.
I know in a few days I'll feel like an idiot for asking all these dumb questions, but it will take a little while to get used to the completely new set of rules of play, and I'm frustrated with it.

On PC, highlight the item and press R. It will store in a container or drop on the ground. I'm not sure about consoles but there must be an equivalent.

There should be a "store" option when interacting with chests, corpses and etc. Just press the required button/key with the item selected.

It's been a while since I've played Oblivion, but with Skyrim all I have to do to drop something is to scroll down to the item and hit the button. Nothing complicated.

...why can't you put anything into chests? I squirrel stuff away all over the place... even the dungeons have perma-save containers where if the dungeon respawns, they'll be safe.

You're doing something VERY wrong... you can just drop anything on the ground that you wish, or you can stuff anything into any container (even dead bodies) without limitations.

I'm really not sure what you're doing wrong at all... it's easy to do.

On the consoles you hit a specific button while highlighted on the item to either store/drop it.

It's real easy... there should be commands visible right there anytime you open up a container or go into your inventory screen.
