I couldn't enjoy this game as much as you guys did. Mainly because I had to go through countless similar quests and dungeons just to find compelling contents in this game. Exploration has gotten tiresome because of this, and not to mention all of the towns in Skyrim sell almost the same things so I had less motives to visit towns and help people to collect golds. All quests don't even give any EXP so that is also a turnoff for me.
I heard the game has dynamic storytelling, but what it all amounts to is that you stumble upon scripted events, which a lot of RPGs like BG, PST, M&M, and the Witcher have already accomplished. They are basically cut scenes only in real time. The other things fans claim is how you can experience your own story, but you aren't given much choices that impact the world, aside from killing people, and people don't really react differently except for a few references. That's not much of a story to me, and I would applaud this feature if there were noteworthy roleplaying elements in the system.
However, there are few exciting quests like the one that you get abducted by the Dark Brotherhood. I killed the woman instead of those hostages and my action lead to a different path and I got rewarded for it. I wish more quests were like the DB one because most of the time you have no choice but to follow their fixed path. I also liked how the combat was improved. However, there aren't that much room for experimentation and variety here because the game doesn't allow to multitask during the fight. Sure, you can use both magic and sword at the same time but that's the extent of freedom you get. Non the less, I mentioned it as a positive side of Skyrim because the combat is more visceral and visually impressive than Oblivion.
Funny thing is, I replayed this game 3 times before I could even finish the main quest in case I was playing it wrong. I have enjoyed other sandbox RPGs like Arx Fatalis, Might and Magic 6&7 and even Oblivion! So I should like this game more. Regardless, it is pretty decent and I'm sure you guys got a good reason. So tell me why Skyrim is such a gem of game.
