My Skyrim review...

Post » Mon Dec 10, 2012 2:57 am

Along with L.A. Noire, Skyrim has got to be one of the worst games I′ve ever played. Incredibly boring and everything feels like a chore. Playing skyrim feels like having to go to work on a monday morning. I never played an Elder Scrolls game before so I got svcked in by all the hype.

I played it for about 5 hours before I couldn′t take it anymore. Now I have it on Ebay to sell it.

My critique points:

- The whole game is way too dark. You can′t see anything at night and especially in caves it gets incredibly frustrating when you can′t see anything most of the time. This is mostly in the beginning though because later on you can use a torch. However the first impression of a game should be fun and not frustrating.

- combat is incredibly boring. It feels like you′re hitting air everytime you try to slash foes. It′s always the same animations, too. It doesn′t matter if you hit enemies in the head or the leg, the damage is the same. It feels like the game is mainly geared towards magic the gathering fans and not casual gamer action junkies. There is absolutely no skill involved whatsoever.

- The environment is depressing and monotone. The towns all look the same and NPCs act like you have a turd hanging out of your ass. No memorable NPCs so far.

- Skyrim is more like a walking simulator than a video game. You get a quest, walk from A to B through a dull and boring environment to get something or to kill something in order to get a [censored] reward from some NPC that doesn′t give a [censored] about you.

- I don′t care about graphics that much, but while some of the graphics especially indoors are quite good, the textures in the forrests in the beginning for example look like graphics from a nintendo64 game. (I have the XBOX 360 version)

- The whole game is incredibly slow and time consuming. I′m a casual gamer and want to have fun and action after a hard day of work and not more work.

- I don′t care about the story. Dragons attack villages and you′re supposed to stop them, blablabla. I wished I could join the dragons in destroying the whole grey and depressing world of Skyrim with all of its lame ass robot NPCs.

I give this game a 5.5/10

First I want to say greetings and hello, welcome to the forums. Second I want to say that LA Noire was a fun game in my opinion, different from modern games.

-If it's to dark, try turning up the brightness, it might help. If not, pick up a torch from somewhere and equip it; I use to use it in deep-dark caves and it worked for me. Do you have a flatscreen? If so, they tend to look more dark depending on its position.

-Combat has never been a strongsuit of any TES games, and so I can agree with you on that. They ought to add power, impact, weight, etc behind each hit.

-That's probably just the way Skyrim is. Play Oblivion and you'll notice Cyrodiil is all bright and fairy-tale-ish. Play Morrowind and it's all dark and mysterious.

-Sounds about right.

-Never noticed.

-This is not a game for casual gamers. Call of Duty is a casual game, you'll probably find more fun in that.

-That's your opinion, but that's only a fraction of the game's narrative. So many quests to do other than the main questline.

Well you're just missing out, because it is a fantastic game. The awards, the commendations, and the overall massive fanbase is obvious proof of that.

The forum doesn't need you, and the world certainly doesn't need you, so not goodbye, just leave.

So why exactly are you here then? Just to tell Skyrim fans that you hate Skyrim? Seems like a waste of time.

My critique points:

- The whole game is way too dark. You can′t see anything at night and especially in caves it gets incredibly frustrating when you can′t see anything most of the time. This is mostly in the beginning though because later on you can use a torch. However the first impression of a game should be fun and not frustrating.
Turn up the brightness on your tv.

To each his own, I suppose. I don't find combat boring at all. There are endless possibilities. You can use a sword, a battleaxe, a shield, destruction magic, conjuration magic, archery. Hell, you can even survive by strictly using your fists. It's very versatile and allows for a lot of replay value.

- The environment is depressing and monotone. The towns all look the same and NPCs act like you have a turd hanging out of your ass. No memorable NPCs so far.
The thing about the environment is just not true. You cannot visit Falkreath, the Reach, Eastmarch and Solstheim and say they're depressing and monotone. Again, Skyrim is a very versatile game. The towns do not all look the same. Take a look at Markarth, Falkreath, Windhelm and Raven Rock and see for yourself. The turd thing must be a mod. Not sure why you'd download that in the first place. (lol)

- Skyrim is more like a walking simulator than a video game. You get a quest, walk from A to B through a dull and boring environment to get something or to kill something in order to get a [censored] reward from some NPC that doesn′t give a [censored] about you.
Seeing as how you've only played for 5 hours I'll forgive you for this one.

- I don′t care about graphics that much, but while some of the graphics especially indoors are quite good, the textures in the forrests in the beginning for example look like graphics from a nintendo64 game. (I have the XBOX 360 version)
Not true either. I think the graphics are fine.

- The whole game is incredibly slow and time consuming. I′m a casual gamer and want to have fun and action after a hard day of work and not more work.
The game is indeed slow and time consuming. It takes time to invest in your character. It's not a mindless FPS. It sounds like it's just not your type of game, you probably wouldn't enjoy Metal Gear Solid or Fallout either if you only like fast-paced action.

- I don′t care about the story. Dragons attack villages and you′re supposed to stop them, blablabla. I wished I could join the dragons in destroying the whole grey and depressing world of Skyrim with all of its lame ass robot NPCs.
Have to agree to some point with you here. Skyrim's main story isn't the strongest I've seen either.

Thoughts?
Yeah, let your anger go. ;p
You don't like Skyrim, that's fine. Although I must say I felt the same way after I first played Skyrim. I bought it mainly to see the engine Bethesda would be working with for Fallout 4, and I didn't enjoy it at all. Put it down after a few hours and gave it a second chance only months later, got hooked after that. Pretty much the same thing happened to me with Brink. Bethesda games just take some time to start appreciating them.

[censored].

This forum needs me.
Uh-huh. At first I considered that maybe this was supposed to be a viable discussion, but then this.

I assume you're bored with nobody to play outside with you so you created this account. The clue was in the name.

If you're bored, do something that isn't a waste of life. Just sayin', the real worlds a lovely place.

Sounds like you would prefer something like Far Cry 3. Skyrim is an action rpg, and they have concentrated on the action side to encourage non-rpgers to dip their toes in the water, but it can't shake it's roots in the old school turn based games of old (and new with kickstarter making such things viable again).
Anyways:

Dark is good imo, makes things scarier.

Yes combat is based as much on character skill as player; that's the nature of the genre. There are action rpgs that have combos and the like, Kingdoms of Amalur and Dragon's Dogma. Maybe try those (though KoA is pretty 'cartoony').

Some of us like monotone and depressing, if it fits go with it, and it fits this game. Yes the npcs are lacking, but to improve them massively and still have so many might require a return to text only, which I guess you wouldn't like.

Sod the quests, games like this reward you for exploring, just heading out and seeing what happens. Too slow? Fast travel.

Skyrim woods look like N64. Sorry, but have to call hyperbole.

If you want to pay £40 for a ten hour game that you 'beat', fair enough. I personally like getting 500+ hours for the same cash.

Can't argue, there is much better writing out there, but the entire point here is the quest stories are just background to your character's story. If you don't have the time to invest in a character, and this is that type of game, then no, you won't get the most from it.
