The World of ESO

The tittle I choose is really vague, It has to do with the World of ESO, but its not really specific.

The question I was wondering is...

Most of us here have played through Skyrim, , Morrowind, and Oblivion. Now Look at Skyrim, its the most recent, so I will be using it as an example. If you have played through Skyrim, then its relativity easy to tell the game is Big, Im not talking extra large pizza, I'm talkin' Jumbo Party size Pizza w/ 24 slices. In the elder scrolls world, Skyrim can fit about, 9-10 times within its Landscape. Based on that, would we be able to deduce that the world of ESO will be 9-10x Bigger then Skyrim? Now If this is true, it leads to my next question, how will the people over at Zenimax create this? Skyrim alone was huge, but to create the entire world of ES seems quite difficult. More or less, would the world of skyrim scale to be as big as it is in ESO? Or will they tone it down?

What creates a good MMO?

The ability to run around and do anything you want, whenever you want?
If this is true, why is WoW as Popular as it is, WoW is very linear. Can anyone explain to me
what makes a good mmo?

In conclusion, I have to questions that need to be answered, And It would be greatly Appreciated if you would answer them.

What makes a good MMO?
How will they scale skyrim's world to be as big as it is in ESO?

As to the size of the world I think because they have been in development for something like 5 years already, and the fact they built their own game engine to develop the game with, I think they will have no problem with the vastness of Tamriel as a whole. Probably the engine they built allows them to create world areas fairly quickly.

What makes a good MMO?

Well you really do need to anolyze what will drive the economy in the game. If you choose to go the route of an auction house like WoW did then most likely you would fail unless you make it so the player can craft items that are worth selling on the AH. If you make your game nothing but a gear grind at end game then you are practically begging for failure. First and foremost you have to make the MMO really fun to play. You need to be able to go to a city and see hundreds of other players there so you get a sense that yes this is a worthy place to be.

Make crafting drive the economy, that is the main thing that I think makes a good MMO. If crafting is worthless or if there are only a couple of crafts that are worth taking up then the MMO will fail.

Also since Star Wars The Old Republic, which introduced really good story aspects to the MMO genre, I think now it is also mandatory that your game have a good story that keeps the player captivated for the entire leveling process and beyond. If you get to level cap and suddenly its a boring waste of time there is little incentive to roll up a new character because once you get that character to cap you are in the same boat. The MMO has to be fun to play or it will fail.
