Ok, I just saw the youtube gameplay clip for 'spears' in the new Dragonborn DLC, and I am now truly disapointed in Bethesda. I have been keeping Skyrim on my PC waiting for the dlc to come out so I could fight with spears, because I think spears are awesome, and I was sure that even Bethesda couldn't screw up animations for spears, since it is pretty basic, the pointy end stabs forward. Then I saw the video clip, and I am currently erasing my Skyrim copy and wait for the Elder Scrolls Online release. Even though I am sure that all the extra content (a couple new armors, a few new monsters to clumsily bash, and a few more generic, unimaginative, quests) would be entertaining, the fact that Bethesda won't even take the time to add a new weapon type, animations included, but make it into some gimmicky tack on with minimal effort, ticks me off, greatly.

I love the Elder Scrolls world, but all we really wanted was a graphically enhanced 'Morrowind' with a new story and a bigger sandbox, not this. My 2 favorite Elder Scrolls games will forever be Morrowind and Redguard. Redguard for it's uniqueness and original story line, not to mention some of the best fencing combat I have played in a game, and Morrowind, for it's wonderful creativity and ability to let you choose and create the coolest things. From armor configurations, to weapon choices, to the ability to MAKE YOUR OWN SPELLS, has made it one of the best RPGs I have ever played.

Needless to say, I will treat any future Elder Scroll games with extreme wariness, and until I see proof that bethesda isn't just dumbing down the next one while adding new, but useless shiny bits, (aka. item zoom in inventory, who has actually used that past the first dragonclaw key?!), I will sadly leave the Elder Scrolls universe and try my hand at another sandbox FPS that offers a plethora of weapons and customization, RPG elements and an interesting storyline... Farcry 3.
