Ghosts and other paranormal phenomena

Post » Tue Dec 11, 2012 8:37 pm

So obviously there must've existed a ghost/paranormal thread here at one point, but I decided to resurrect the topic since it's long gone. I consider myself a skeptic, and I have a hard time believing in the paranormal, but I'm still very interested in it. I really want to experience something unexplainable so that my views on the matter can be changed forever. Sadly I haven't experienced anything, but I'm sure some of you have something to share, or just want to discuss ghosts and creepy stuff.

So, have you ever seen a ghost, do you know of any interesting urban legends or stories, is your house haunted? Let's (hopefully) get a discussion going.

I've never came across anything that I couldn't explain with logic, so until I do I'll remain a skeptic as well. And if any of you bring up those crappy ghost shows as evidence of ghosts...

However my girlfriend is a believer. I'm unsure what to think. At the moment of this post I believe we simply die and that's the end of it. But who knows, the brain is quite powerful and we know little about it. Maybe there is a logical explanation that still leaves ghosts as a reasonable option.

I wake up from time to time during that part of the sleep cycle where your brain switches gears, so to speak, and find myself half awake and half asleep. That is, I'm partially awake but my brain is still dreaming so, while I can consciously interact with the real world, my brain is still spewing dreams out at me. It's a bit eerie...

Closest thing I've got. To be honest, that's probably similar to what happens when people experience phenomena of this sort but I'm no expert.

Even though I've never seen a ghost, I believe in them. My mother already had some paranormal experiences with dead love ones. I highly doubt that millions of people across the world, of all sorts of culture, races, social status, etc., and for hundreds of years, are having mass hallucinations. Even people who have never met each other in their lives, see the same thing in a "haunted" place. I don't think is coincidence.

Anyways, this is a ghost story experienced by police: Two cops were sent to this house because there was an emergency call made, they knock on the door and this man open the door. The cops enter the living room to find a man lying on the floor. They turned him around and to their chilling surprise, he was the same guy who opened the door. They immediately search outside and inside the house, and nobody was there. Dead silence.

The old man died of a heart attack, alone with no family.

Like I said, the brain is quite powerful. There are several things that we don't control that are hidden in our subconscious These people could simply be seeing the re imaging of a picture they saw earlier while looking at the house. Or they could be seeing what they want to see, especially in places that are popular for "paranormal" activity.

Again, all speculation.
