Should I buy a regular PS3 controller or buy a PS2 to PS3 controller adapter and use my PS2 controllers on it?

I have a ps2 and i just got a ps3, and since i only have one controller for my ps3, do you think i should just buy another ps3 controller or buy a ps2-to-ps3 controller adapter so i can use my ps2 controllers on my ps3? I heard a ps3 controller is better, but it's $40 more money than to just buy a controller adapter.....any suggestions?
