My PC just blue screened completley, took hours to fix, i did a bit of fiddling around but now my VGA cable will not connect to my TV and when i use HDMI, the desktop is too big for the screen, even when i change resolution.

TV's are like that sometimes, but I would have expected it to autodetect it properly. You can try to fix this by tuning underscan/overscan with graphics card drivers. Changing resolution does not help. You didn't mention are you in the NVidia, AMD/ATI, or some other camp. In Catalyst 12.6 it's under "My Digital Flat-Panels"/"Scaling Options". Maybe that helps, but I'm only guessing.
